Vibration at highway speeds 65-75 mph.
Various electrical problems.
Excessive engine oil consumption.
Cannot believe Cadillac would continue to build these cars with the vibration problem they know, but don't tell all of us that can't be corrected.
Very disappointed in the car and the service. Would never consider having another one.
Don't buy one, you will be disappointed too.
What? I have one and it did have the vibration, but my dealership fixed it. That was the only problem with it. It has about 15000 miles and the engine runs great and no electrical problems.
You say the dealership fixed your vibration problem, but you did not tell us how. My dealership has replaced the tires and will be replacing the lower control arms as soon as they come in. Is there something else they should be looking for?
The new Cadillac chassis is very sensitive to certain frequencies and harmonics. Have your dealer or a tire shop with a balance machine that can check "road force" balance and match mount your tires. As for oil consumption there are 2 fixes: One is an extensive de-carbon process to free sticking rings and the other is to replace the rings. Use the lowest octane gas you can without engine ping and don't be afraid to get into the throttle occasionally. Slow acceleration mixed with high octane fuel = excessive carbon. High octane fuel burns much slower than low octane. (to resist detonation). I am a very experienced Cadillac technician and have solved these problems a lot. There are a lot of clueless mechanics out there, I see them come and go. Hope you get a good tech., tell your dealer there are technical service bulletins, and or preliminary info. on all your complaints. Check the ground at the alternator for various electrical problems I would love to own an STS, but for now the Cadillacs pay for my Accord. Best of luck, don't give up. Find a good dedicated technician.
I have just purchased a 2002 Seville SLS, with only 20,200 miles, but before buying performed a test run around town and more importantly on the Highway. Yes, it started to vibrate at between 60-70 mph. The fix however is simple, upgrade the tires from the OEM Goodyear Integrity tires and replace with a Michelin Pilot, XGT H4. It was a completely different riding vehicle. Smooth thoughout the legal speed range and more.
And for those of you who ever have need to change a water pump, before going to a service center and being charged $350 plus for the privilege, consider this, you can buy the special tool required for around $40 and the impeller for around $55 from a car parts type place.
I have Michelin tires and mine has NO vibration - an excellent car. This dude is probably a Lexus or BMW salesperson...
I upgraded to goodyear eagle gt tires and the vibration completly stopped. first cadillac, and wow! dependable, smooth, powerfull, and a great car all around. was hooked on lexus until I bought this one. sorry lexus, you weren't all you were hyped up to be.
I am the owner of a 2002 Cadillac SLS. The front end was vibrating at 18,000 miles. The tie rods was replaced by a Cadillac Dealer. I replaced the Goodyear tires with another set of Goodyear tires. I still had a vibration at the front end. The Cadillac service manager told me that I should have bought a set of Michelin tires.
I compared the 2006 Buick Lucerne CXL V8 and my 2002 Cadillac SLS on the Kelly Blue Book Comparison link and I found them to be almost the same.
Well I just put a set of Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus tires on my 2000 STS and the vibrations is still there with 32 psi, but when I lowered it to 31 just 1 pound it was better I'm going to try 30 next.
Before dropping your tire pressure any further, take the car to a wheel and tire shop and have them check the balance of the tires. This is a cheap way of determining what is wrong.
2002 Caddilac STS fully loaded, 28,000 miles on the road. Have already had to replace batteries four times and now the fifth time is only one month since the fourth battery was replaced. Dealership replaced a computer module for the third battery, found nothing on the fourth battery replacement. Any similar complaints out there? Any fixes?
