"The Malibu is mud in the face of the GM Corp"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Warped Rotors at low mileage-Twice.

Replaced Brake Pads-Twice.

Hazard Light Switch Replaced.

Passlock System going out-won't start

It was towed twice. Sometimes it will start and sometimes we have to wait Ten minutes for the theft light to go off.

Overheating while A/C is off and in Traffic.

Water Coolant Reservoir cracked.

Injectors had to be cleaned due to sluggish acceleration.

General comments?

Most of the problems we have had with this car were under warranty. Now the warranty is out. The Passlock Theft system is what we are having problems with now.

Anybody that reads this must call the GM help line and report all claims.

I reported my claims, but he said that there were not enough claims to do a recall. So people report if you can.

I had heard thru my Dealer and GM that they have recall for Malibu's coming up. But I don't know what it is for.

My a/c will turn on and off all on its own, when the turn signal is activated in either direction it sometimes has a loud tone that comes from under the dash, on cold day's in the drive position in idle the lights will all flicker.

I also had to replace the Hazard switch - but GM, to its credit, reimbursed me for the repair after they issued a recall on the problem. I have also had a pulsating brake pedal and had the rotors turned twice in the last 12000 miles (last time 3000 miles ago and the pedal pulsates again - although it stops fine) the car has 60,000 miles with NO OTHER problems.

I purchased a 2000 Malibu with 19k approx. 8 months ago. Now I know why the mileage was so low, the car was always in the garage. I cannot find a buyer for this piece of junk. I have experienced the same problems as most Malibu owners ie: Fan switch problem, ABS light problem, Turn signal problem, and now Intake manifold gasket problem. I walked away from GM 15 years ago, however a good friend convinced me to purchase this low mileage Malibu. GM got me again, but never never never again will I give GM my hard working money.

Another uphappy Malibu owner.

2000 Malibu that I thought would be a good car. Purchased the extended warranty even. Well as all things go after the warranty runs out that's when it started.

1st the fan does not work on position 1 and 2. Found it was the sensor located in the heating outlets, replaced for 75.00 cdn, them the turning signals won't blink. Replaced the hazard flasher, 35.00 cdn. Then the big one comes, start leaking coolant so take it to dealer and the head gaskets are shot. Only 1700.00 cdn this time. By the way I only have 70,000 miles on the car. Called GM and all they do is sympathize and say call us again. What ever happened to cars that lasted oh say 5 years... Very frustrated with GM and will never buy one again.

My comment is this: I agree that Malibu 2000 LS cars have major repair problems. I have experienced having to replace the water pump for overheating problems and for coolant leakage, and I still have the same problem after it being replaced, then the thermostat was replaced to solve the overheating and leaking. Unfortunately, it did not solve the problems. Then it was supposedly the intake gaskets and they were replaced also because of the leakage problem and overheating I still had with car. This did not solve the problem either and then the reservoir which holds the coolant was replaced because the top was supposedly stripped to not hold cap on properly. Again, I'm still facing the same problems, now the car will not start at all and the check engine line is coming on still. The last verdict I got from a diagnostic check after all the previous repairs were made to fix the overheating and leaking of coolant problem,-- I was told my problem was the head gaskets. This I was told causes the overheating and leaking of coolant. The cost to repair at dealership is 1,031.00 to repair. Well, being a single parent of three children and my financial budget, geting this car repaired is going to be difficult, since I've already spent well over $600.00 so far. In the meantime, I am having to bomb a car to get to work each day from a family member. I have had this car only a little over two years and purchased it when it was only a yr. old. This should not be happening so quickly. I am very disappointed with this product. I've been told over and over again at repair shops that the gaskets are major jobs they have done on Malibu vehicles from customers. There should be a recall specifically on these problems! I Hope I've helped someone with my comments and, hopefully there will be some justice shown to the customers who have purchased these cars and are faced with these major repair problems.

Thank you.

Check coolant level light came on while the coolant is full to max. Before I know it, the head gasket needed to be change because Water Coolant Reservoir was cracked and water pump was replaced too. Also Warped Rotors at low mileage-Twice, Replaced brake pads-twice. Hazard Light Switch Replaced. Pass lock System going out-won't start.

This car does not worth anything that resembles it, the best thing now would be to take it off the market, but for me Chevy is out of my life for good….
