Windshield wipers sometimes will not turn off. I have tried replacing the windshield wiper motor, but that didn't fix it. It must be in the wiring somewhere.
The wiring around the motor needs replaced. I have already rewired half of the car, but there is a lot more to go.
The dash is cracked and needs replaced.
The paint has started to wear off. I'm getting a paint job soon before the roof rusts through.
This is pretty much an all-purpose car. I take can it out joy riding and even on vacations.
It has a ton of trunk room for suitcases or whatever else you want to put in there. It gets good gas mileage when you're not stopping and going. That makes it great for going long distances. The seats are also comfortable enough to sit in for the hours that it will take you to get to your vacation destination. Don't plan on many stops. With its gas mileage and its huge fuel tank, you will rarely stop for gas.
The gas mileage while you are joy riding is very different from the gas mileage you get when you're on the highway. Other than this one downside to taking it joyriding, this car is great for joyriding. It handles the curves well. It stops very quickly (this has saved my life twice). What really makes this car great for joyriding or even mud-riding is its power. I can take this car places that some trucks can't make it. I've got witnesses if you don't believe me.
I love showing this car off. I will probably continue showing this car off for many years because it is very hard to dent up. Other than the wiring which is bad, this car is one of the most durable vehicles I have ever seen.
This is also one of the safest vehicles I have ever been in. I don't have proof for this statement, but the car seems to give me a great sense of security. I feel safer in my car driving down a busy highway than I do in my house with all the doors locked and the guard dogs watching.
There is one thing I would like to complain about, though. If you ever tear something up on a caprice, it's nearly impossible to find a replacement part. It usually takes about six months to find one.
Hard to find replacement parts for a Caprice?
Body/trim parts, maybe, especially for an 89. But mechanical parts can be found just about anywhere.
Unless you are living on another planet.
Wave to the Mars space probe when you see it.
I don't know how you have trouble denting it up.
Mine is dented all over.
You're just not trying hard enough.
So, you can take this all-purpose car joyriding and even on vacation?
How about a trip to the mall, can it go there too?
Please tell us about all the other cars you've driven.
You're an excelent writer.
Your review is excellent. I understand you completely. I own the same exact car and it rules. You can junk all the new stuff for this.
I have a 1989 caprice LS and you can go to chevygmparts. com and buy any part that you will need. My wipers act funny too, but its still a great car.
I agree the Chevrolet Caprice Classic is a great car. its very reliable and only has basic breakdowns. it is one of the last steel cars so it should be safe.
I had an Olds 98 Regency Brougham (a similar, full-sized, all-steel barge) which was hit by an in-a-hurry pizza-delivery driver in a compact-car. He nailed me in a rear quarter-panel, behind the wheel and ahead of the bumper. He bounced off and spun a 360; his vehicle's front accordianed, and was totaled. Mine had a dent about the size of my hand -- and the paint wasn't even cracked.
When he hit me, I barely felt it.
Just so we're on the same page.. The car has saved your life twice. It makes you feel safe and secure. But, you DON'T have proof of these feelings. Then, there are witnesses to the fact that it can climb any surface? I'll have whatever proof you've been downing.
I owned a '90 caprice and I had an accident with a '94 grand am. the girl driving the grand am changed lanes into my lh front quarter panel. the back of the 'am looked like a bull rammed it. it felt like I had driven over a small curb. got out and pulled the fender back. the chrome wheel liner fell off, but that is about it. I sold it about 6 months later and I've regreted it ever since. these cars are fantastic.
