1989 Acura Legend L from North America - Comments

"Luxury and performance for little money"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Nothing mechanical yet.

The leather is very sun damaged with cracks in the main exposure areas. I'm using seat covers for now, but may try and repair this later.

Rear view mirror mount broke, but fixed this with a $12 kit.

General comments?

Dang, I really like this car! It's zippy, well-fitted out, and very nice looking for its age. Got it from a neighbour who pampered it since she got it in '89 (but parked it outside and the Palm Springs sun just destroyed the leather).

After my former car was totalled (not my fault), could have used the settlement for another new car, but opted for the Legend as a cash-down solution. Look Ma, no payments!

My girlfriend has the 1989 Acura Legend L 4-door and it has the same problem with the leather. The back seat head rests are now held together with duct tape and the entire front seats deteriorated until seat covers were necessary. But this car has over 180,000 miles on it and is still running great, so who can complain?

I have a 1990 Acura Legend and the leather seats are all cracking and tearing. Has anyone had any help repairing or replacing from the company?

Please send comments to wings@whidbey.net.

I have a 1989 Acura Legend and it has problems staring when it is hot from setting in the sun, I have been told the problem is fuel relay.

Any suggestions of what is wrong as this is a real problem, but the car is good and runs great when started ane will start okay in morning when cool.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the 1988 Acura Legend LS and I believe it's one of the best I have ever driven (one of the cars amongst them being a 2005 Ford Thunderbird). I do have the above mentioned problem of the car having starting problems in extreme heat (anywhere from 85-110 degrees outside) it does a sluggish start when I first start driving in that temp range (where the gas pedal will be to the floor and its moving as if the engine isn't getting any gas). On a good note the leather is impeccable. Not a single tear or scratch. We are at 180,000 and I am currently changing the water pump due to a puncture from previous owners wear (previous owner being my Grandmother who is extremely hard on cars.

I have an '89 Acura Legend, and am having a problem with the rear view mirror. There is a comment about "fixing this with a $12 kit." What kind of kit is this, and where do I get one?

In reference to the 24th Jul 2005, 20:36 poster: Sounds very much like the Main Relay needs replacement. Had the same problem! Replaced it and it solved the problem. Good luck.

I also have the same problem with the ripped seats. I had that starting problem in a 1986 honda accord and it never got fixed and nobody could figure it out. So I sold it. I would recommend you do the same because it gets annoying after awhile when you can't depend on your car to start and stay running.

I have a 1988 Acura Legend & about 4years ago it sat for about 2years then I got it up & running. I got a new alternator, starter, a battery, & battery connectors. After a month or so driving, the power for my car starts to act as if its draining until my battery just dies out. At first the car tried to turn over when I tried to jump it w/another car but it wouldn't.So I bought a main relay that goes under the steering wheel. Got another new battery and the car started right up. I drove around for about a good 15-20minutes then the power dies out again. Something keeps draining my battery. If there is anybody who knows whats wrong. PLEASE let me know... www.valac206@msn.com Please contact if you can. I'm 20years and I just had a daughter but now I have no way for transportation. please help...

'89 Acura Legend running woes - electrical. Would sometimes start and immediately die, sometimes die with speed changes, run rough at odd times, & sometimes overheat, or air conditioning would just not work. 4 different pros, some Acura specialist, replaced every relay under hood as well as main relay under dash - appeared variously to "fix" problem, but then would happened again. Finally, accidentally as things seem to worsen and seem hopeless, played around with starter switch. Could make it happen almost at will. Replaced electrical part of that myself and works fine every time for a year.

Now need $12 fix for the rear view mirror wobbles problem. Help?
