I have a 2002 Envoy XL that I purchased new on 15 April 2002.
I had electrical problems from the get go.
The one problem that GM would not entertain about fixing was one of the vent valves under the dash. I blame the dealer as much as GM. The valve makes a clicking noise every time the A/C cycles on and off.
The second is the fan clutch. My engine light has not come on, but the fan really makes a lot of noise. So I unplugged the wires going to the fan, engine light still didn't come on.
I found a replacement for the fan on the net for $159.03 part no. 15293048 with no delivery fee. The site was Shop.Com.
I have owned GMC since 1967; I guess around 20 different trucks and SUV's, I am truly dissatisfied with GM. My next will be Japanese.
Just another lost customer and reason GM is sliding further down the slope towards disaster. I truly hope the company turns things around, there are far too many people employed for it to go bankrupt. The 2007 Tahoe seems to be a step in the right direction.
Our family has owned a number of SUV's, including Toyota, Ford, and Chevy. In 2003 we bought our 2003 Envoy and it is without doubt the best SUV we've ever owned. In over 39,000 miles it has never required anything other than oil changes. It is smooth, solid, MUCH more powerful than any of our previous SUV's, and has thus far been the most dependable vehicle we have owned with the possible exception of my Dodge Omni, which went 240,000 miles with practically no repairs at all.
Dealer service varies tremendously in different areas of the country. The main reason we now have GM products is the local dealership. Ford's service department here is a JOKE, and we couldn't get the Chrysler dealership to repair the warped rotors on our Dodge in the FIRST MONTH after buying it (it CAME with warped rotors). The Toyota dealers here have been in the news locally for not honoring their warranty and cheating customers on sales tax. GM is the ONLY local dealership that seems to care about its clients. They are wonderful. They just made a minor repair on our Envoy at no charge, and it has been out of the factory warranty for 4,000+ miles now. That sort of concern for customer satisfaction keeps us buying GM now. I'm sorry you live in an area with horrible service. The CARS are great. It's the bad dealers that are defective.
I get a kick out of these folks who have minor problems with a car and say "next time I'll buy a Japanese car". We're in our late 50's and have owned about 30 cars since we have been married. The ONLY cars we EVER had any major problems with were our two Japanese cars and our German car. I hope you save up plenty of money for repairs. You'll need it. Our 2003 Envoy has never given us a second's trouble. We also own a 2001 Pontiac and a Ford truck. Neither of those has ever had any problems either.
There is a belief that American car companies are all American and that Japanese cars are made in Japan. Car companies are global. GM offers products made in Korea. Many of the parts that GM uses are manufactured globally. The theory that Japanese replacement parts cost more is no longer true. I'm an auto tech by trade and had to replace a clutch fan and water pump on a 2003 Envoy. The clutch fan was $435 dollars and the water pump was $168 with three ours of labour. This is a common problem on the Envoy. Compare that to the clutch fan I had to replace on a 1992 GMC K2500 which only cost $60 dollars. Times are changing!
2002 GM SUV's seemed to have issues. The newer GM's are a lot better. I switched back and forth my worse being an 2002 Acura TL. Good luck!
I have a GMC Envoy XL and the fan is making a lot of noise also, and I also hear the clicking noise. I looked up on shop.com and saw the fan for 201.00 dollars. I went to the dealer and they said to replace the fan it would cost 900. The clicking noise happens when I turn on the car, and when I turn on the A/C unit in the back, the air doesn't come out the top vents. I would like to know if I fix the clicking noise, will that fix the air?
Thanks for any advice.
