Corollas do, indeed, break down (pretty often as a matter of fact). My neighbor bought one for his daughter and the engine blew up in it before 36,000 miles. I've heard of a LOT of Corollas having similar problems. Toyota has not built reliable vehicles in DECADES. Just check out the 2006 Camry reviews. OVER HALF are "frownie faces" and there are some real horror stories there of people who have fallen for the myth of Toyota quality.

Building too many cars with little thought to quality control has cost Toyota dearly in terms of reliability (which is now WAY BELOW that of Ford or GM). Even TOYOTA has admitted this, and is cutting back on production to try and bring their build quality up to the standards of domestics.

Sorry, no automaker is WAY below Ford or Chevy as they are tied for dead last.
Toyota and Honda take turns one-upping each other for the #1 spot, while Ford and Chevy can't conceive, design, or build anything to pull them out of the mud. One or both of them WILL sell out to a foreign automaker before too many more ridiculously unproductive years go by. And Toyota will have long since passed them both up to become the world's largest (and STILL best) automaker. They have made all the right moves, and GM and Ford have made all the wrong ones.

Obviously commenter 09:59 has not checked some rather eye-opening facts.
1) On this site, the 2006 Camry has over HALF the reviewers stating they WOULD NOT buy another Toyota.
2) Just in the past 12 months Toyota has had MAJOR problems with air bags, sticking accelerators, bad transmissions, peeling paint, defective brakes, coolant leaks, oil leaks, front suspension problems and many others too numerous to list.
3) A number of Corolla owners report ENGINE FAILURE before 36,000 miles (nothing like those reliable Toyota engines!!).
4) Honda owners report an AVALANCHE of bad transmissions in both Honda and Acura models.
5) Nissan profits were down over 22% last quarter and the Titan and Armada lines have been the source of THOUSANDS of unhappy customers due to poor reliability.
6) The Ford Fusion is now rated HIGHER in reliability than the Camry or Accord, while the entire Ford line-up ranks higher in reliability than Nissan.
7) The Ford F-150 STILL ranks as the world's best truck (outselling the poorly constructed Tundras 7 to 1) while Toyota has totally redesigned the Tundra for 2007 TO INCORPORATE MORE OF THE F-150's RUGGED CONSTRUCTION FEATURES.

Yes, Its fact that Toyota has lost its quality and most of Toyota engines giving much problems and failing after few thousand Kilometers or below.

To 10:09, no it's not a fact, you just think it is. There's a difference. Maybe if Toyota follows Ford and GM's lead, they can end up in the same fine shape that those two are in? Give me a break.

Like it or not, the Camry has been the best selling car in the country several times because it's reliable and it's a great car.
The Corolla is the best selling model of car ALL-TIME in the United States, and if you have one that blows up in under 36,000 miles, then it's your fault because it's out of oil. These cars routinely go to 200,000 and many well beyond that.
The "unhappy" Camry reviews on this site are mostly false, and most of them have nothing to do with the quality of the car; just somebody who wants more horsepower, on some other issue that could have been solved with a simple test drive beforehand.
The Tundra is a much better truck than the F-150. You better get you bragging in now about F-150 sales, because it's days are numbered. Tundra sales grow stronger, and Ford sales still drop off. Can't wait until the Tundra passes it in sales, so they'll be nothing left good to say about the F-150.
Ford shouldn't even be allowed to make cars, so don't even try and compare them to Toyota's. Ford cars are a disaster, go look at how many Ford owners say they'll NEVER buy Ford again, it's pathetic.
Honda is so much better of a car than a Ford that it's blasphemy to mention them in the same paragraph. Enough said about that. For every transmission problem that Honda has EVER had, there must be 500 Ford cars on the road with bad transmission. Look at their line-up of cars in the last 20 years; it looks like the land of misfit toys. Nobody even takes them seriously anymore.

No, Corollas don't break down often; almost never. You're thinking of Ford and Chevy.

Toyota quality is a myth. I had one which was constantly in the shop. My corolla needed the engine replaced at 23K.

A friend of ours bought their daughter a new Corolla and the engine seized on it at only 31,000 miles. Then, to make matters worse, Toyota gave them a run around about replacing the engine. After the whole mess was written up in our local newspaper, Toyota was finally embarrassed enough to fix the car. This seems to be a really common thing with Corollas. I'm glad I didn't buy one. I looked at them, but wasn't even remotely impressed. Ford and GM are much better cars with greater reliability.

3 17 How old is your Toyota? My 80's and into 90's were fine, but its 2007 now. The imports I had dropped in quality. Since 2004 I have zero issues with my new loaded domestics. I made the mistake keeping my last import over 36000 miles. Never again...

Well, maybe you got the one bad Corolla in 10,000. Still better than the Big 3, where your chances of getting a GOOD one are about 1 in 10,000.

My roommate has a 2004 Corolla LE that he bought new. He has not had anything go wrong other than a hit and run accident that did 9500$ in damage and the insurance company would not total it (this happened Nov 2006. He now has 60,000 miles and has taken it in for maintenance such as oil changes etc. I would have to say from driving it a few times that it is a class above the domestic compacts such as the Cobalt, G5, Focus, Neon for example. The interior is very well built and the outside panels fit together well. The only thing this car suffers from is boredom. It is not sporty by any means... but I do not think any domestic will give this much driving pleasure unless you fork out the money to buy an SVT Focus, Srt 4 Neon, or Colbalt SS. SORRY NO PROBLEMS HERE FOLKS...Toyota domination on the way!!! I am not a business major and I see it coming..

Yet ANOTHER false review about a Toyota. They have almost no faults, so people make up stories. "A taxi or motorbike is always better than Toyota cars"... You really believe that, yet you bought one? Another review that's not fit to print.
