My old Fiesta suffered similarly with its suspension, but only down to my inexperience & hap hazard attitude toward speed humps...

My 54 dCi has the usual rattling sunroof, plus annoying rattles from the dashboard (which vary depending upon whether the car is cold or warmed up), and the seats have started to fray on the side bolsters. What is perhaps most upsetting is the attitude and response from the local Renault dealer and the customer service dept, who just aren't interested unless I am booking a service with them (I thought Alfa owners were supposed to get the worse treatment). Anyway, won't happen again as won't buy another one, and will try to deter anyone else from buying one, no matter how hard Ghosn (CEO) is trying to put quality right. My mate's 03 Megane is onto its third rear window because they just blow out!!

I have a Renault Clio 1.4 Expression,2001 (new shape) 97000km on the clock.

I have also had the coils replaced 3 times (fortunately not at my cost)

I also have had the airbag light come on - and was told due to wiring under drivers seat - which if continued they would solder the wires. Now I am told that actually it is the front passenger seat belt that need to be replaced.

I now don't have power steering, because apparently the power steering computer is not taking programming. To replace this is ZAR8500 (+/- 700pounds) has anyone else had this problem as Renault swear its not at all common.

I have a 2002 1.2 Renault Clio which I've had for a few months now! The problem is:

The Car will cut out in the idle speed. Not all of the time, but enough to give me concern. The car does not seem to be able to hold it's revs. I have had the car serviced and MOT, but they could not find anything wrong! There is no hole in exhaust... can someone please help and possible tell me whats wrong with it?

Hi.

I have a 2002 Renault Clio extreme 1.2 16v, what I think is the engine management light keeps flashing on and off intermittently. I have contacted Renault and had no reply as yet. What concerns me is an earlier post I read from a lady saying that her car was recalled because of a fault with the braking assistance, has anybody else heard this?

I am praying for May 2007 so I can hand this car back.

Any ideas with these problems with the Renault Clio? I've got a Renault Clio 1.2 Expression 02 reg. It's done about 33,000 miles. I'm having problems with it jerking when sat at lights/ in traffic. I rev the engine to stop it cutting out but it needs to be fixed. I've taken it to be looked at twice and had a MOT and service, but can't find anything. Any ideas from anyone? Or should I cut my loses and sell it before it gets any worse?

I have a Renault Clio 1.2 16v Expression and at low speeds it is juddering. I have took it to my local Renault garage who have replaced the spark plugs, which worked for a while. Then replaced the fuel injection and now its needs to go back in as the juddering isn't as bad, but its still there.

With regards to the first comment, my '98 Megane suffered the same problem. The revs would drop when idling, and the engine would start chugging, and it seemed like there was no power in the engine.

I brought it to the local Renault dealer, and got one of the coil packs changed. That solved that problem.

Unfortunately, now when idling, every so often the revs drop, and the car just cuts out, like a lot of the other postings on this page.

Now, I'm afraid to bring it back to get it looked at, since money is a bit tight this time of year.

Don't know what else to do, in the long run, though.

Oh dear wish I had thought of searching for problems with the Clio before buying one for my partner. We have a 53 plate 1.2 extreme which looks great, but you guessed it has all of the same problems or characteristics as my Renault dealership likes to call them. Having owned the car for 5 weeks the car went back to Renault due to misfiring after 1 week. I was told that nothing showed up on the diagnostic and to let the problem develop. It did and 2 nights ago it cut out completely with my partner and 4 year old in the car. They are both fine, but were pretty spooked. The car is in Renault at this time, again being looked at. A lot of people use the Clio to ferry kids to nurseries, and schools etc.,I think its shocking that we are allowed to buy these cars when it is obvious there are major safety concerns.

I have a Clio extreme 02 reg and have suffered from the following problems, low revs when stopped at lights etc, engine warning lights coming on at random times although usually just after I have started the car and engine not firing at random times.

Well I now no longer have any of these problems and it costs me under a £10 to fix.

Bottle of cleaner such as Redex into fuel tank cured the low revs and engine not firing problem.

Can of WD40 used on engine wiring cured the engine warning lights problem which I noticed seem to happen on damp/wet days.

So far 6 months on not a problem since.

I would be interested if this works for anyone else.

Good Luck.

We too have suffered with a range of similar problems with my Sons first car, a Clio 1.6 RXE. It appears to have a mind of its own, revving, stalling and poor starting. So far we have had to replaced a fly wheel sensor and had water removed from the ecu. This is within the space of a month. The car has been at times dangerous, slowing down when overtaking for example. Time to get rid I think. We have a Megane Scenic, no problems at all apart from a very poor heater.

I recently bought a Clio extreme (2002 plate), within the first week the power was cutting out, revs high one day low the next, radio would go quiet then loud, and this happened every time the coil light came on (my car was still drivable, but it struggled when pulling away and changing gears) This then did the same thing 5 more times and my car has just been taken to Renault, they said they found 2 faults although they haven't told me what exactly and they've re mapped the ECU, and this was causing all the other problems apparently. So I'm picking it up tonight and this should all be sorted, right??

I'll let you know how I get on.

My wife has a 1.4 Clio and the same problem of cutting out.

Tried a couple of local garages and had some short term success, but it always returns.

I am stunned that Renault can win the F1 Grand Prix Championship, but cannot fix an apparently trivial, but dangerous problem like this.

Anyone know the e-mail address of the MD of Renault F1... perhaps we can all ask him?
