I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which every morning needs to be jump-started 'cause the battery is dead. Then, when I try to turn on the engine, there is a clicking noise from the fuse panel and all of the gauges on my dashboard are pegging along with the clicking noise. The charging system has all checked out. I've changed the battery as well as the alternator, and the problem is still there. Do you have any idea what it could be??? Heeeeeeeeeelp!!

I am looking to see if anyone else has had a problem with the key less not working. Mine stopped working on the one remote so I replaced the battery. I could not get it working. Then I tried the other and it worked a couple of times. Now neither are working. Is there anyway to reprogram without going to the dealership.

Please tell me that I am not the only one who has a problem with the back taillights. one of them just doesn't work at all.. tried to replace the lights, didn't work... Looked at all the fuses, didn't work... this is annoying.. plus I have that duck noise on my car too.. the locks make this funny noise and the back driver side. will unlock, but when I want to lock it it won't lock. so I have to do it manually. what should I do now. I don't have all this money to fix these problems...

After dealing with the duck sounding buzz noise for 3 months, a friend told me about a website he bought some dash tweeters from for his Grand Cherokee, he said he thought they sold the door lock actuators and they did, very reasonable on the price and got it in 4 days.. it was www.jeeptweeter.com. Take care all.

Dear Mr. Clark of the December 5th post. If the "something is loose" noise sounds like a high-pitch chirping/rattling (like something is loose in the dash), you might want to have the front shock tightened. I had the same problem, and emptied my glove box thinking something was loose. I pounded on the dash, etc. Finally, a local shop said it was a loose front shock on the passenger side. They tightened it and it quit for good!

I am owner of 2000 Jeep GCLtd and have experienced same tail/brakelight problems.

The problem with the taillights was that they would go off when my headlamps were on and the brakes depressed. It started with my left one. I tried replacing bulbs and still had the problem.

I found this forum and used an idea to fix the problem at no cost to me. And it took me five minutes. Check out the post from January 1st, 2005. I followed the steps and it works!

Here it is in case you don't want to hunt for it:

"I own a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee and I too had the same problem on the left tail light/brake light. Thanks to this website, I've regained my sanity (and stopped changing lightbulbs). Additionally, I was not going to pay for a part unless I absolutely had to, and I was able to repair the light with info from this website. In return, I thought I'd post how I did it.

1. Remove the tail light assembly. Most of you know how to remove the light assembly if you've changed bulbs, so I won't cover that.

2. disconnect the wiring harness by sliding the red locking clip to the side in order to press the side of the male connector and pull apart.

3. Once you've got the tail assembly away from the vehicle and on a bench, remove the light socket for the tail/brake light. You will see 3 silver contact points inside the black plastic ring. 2 are grouped together and there is one that is opposite of the 2. The one by itself is the ground; the other two are the contacts for the tail light and brake light. The problem lies with the ground connector. (BTW, I tested continuity with all lights and contacts including the turn signal and the reverse light to verify that the circuit board itself was good, and it was).

4. clean all contacts with a Q-Tip and some sort of contact cleaner - rubbing alcohol will work.

5. You should notice that the ground contact is depressed into the plastic and the plastic itself is slightly warped down. I was able to use a small pair of needle nose pliers that have a 45 degree angle to press up on the contact from underneath using the opposite lip of the hole as leverage (very carefully). Once it had moved up a bit, I was able to wedge a mini-flathead screwdriver in between the metal contact and the plastic to force the contact up even further (again, very carefully). Once it looked even with the rest, gently reinsert the connector and test.

Hope this helps...

Great advice in this thread. In addition to the Jan. 1 post that outlines how to fix the lighting issue, there's a post somewhere that mentions using some aluminum foil to create a little 'booster' for the ground contact. I had great luck with this and only had to spend about 5 minutes working on it. Just wish I'd have read this prior to the $65 wiring diagnostic rather than after. Worthy to note that although I'm a big Jeep fan I've had two different Jeeps and this issue came up in both.

Okay guys, I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with about 135k miles on it. Here are the problems that I have had with it:

1) My left tail light does not work. As someone said earlier, it's a cheap fix if you replace it yourself. Just a bracket that is cracked.

2) My rotors have gotten warped really badly. Replace them, or get them trued. (sp?) No matter who tells you what, it is your rotors if you break and your car jumps or wobbles on your way down. the best way to check this is to go about 3mph and put your breaks on, not all the way, but light enough to come to a complete stop, then begin rolling... if your car moves forward about a foot or two before stopping again, its obvious. I've taken it too many different companies, they all say my rotors are fine. But when I finally got them trued, its been working great.

3) front door actuator. I haven't attempted this one yet, but the piece from my dealership is $70. I hope to find one online cheaper :/

4) The jeep doesn't start when I want it to. Sometimes it will, but not all the time. At first I thought it was a cold start injector having a problem. Then I discovered my year/model doesn't have a cold start injector. Also, it had problems sometimes right after I turn it off and turn it back on. I replaced the starter three times as I was told THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. BUT It is not. It is the fuel pump. Unfortunately, this piece is expensive and is located in the gas tank, but fix it and you'll be set.

I'm getting together a petition to have everyone sign who are experiencing these problems, hopefully we can get a recall on them. All these issues are crap. Please email me if you want to help me further this. I'll post a link to the petition in a day or so. Thank you!!

Just wanted to know how to fix this problem. My friend has a Jeep GC 1999. She was saying something about the signal light lever of the vehicle not working. I'm not sure whats wrong wih it yet, but she kinda describe it as it won't hold or blink. Any comments on getting this fix will surely appreciated. Thanks.

You guys rule on this site. I've been so frustrated with the tail brake lights not working. I of course replaced the light bulbs. I tested the circuit breakers. So frustrating to think I'd have to take the car in yet again and be charged probably another $300 to fix the lights. The detail instructions totally helped me solve (for now) the manufacturing defect. Just used a pin to left the contact up and voila, the brakes worked. You guys saved me a lot of money tonight. Thanks a lot. Jeeps are a nice ride, but this is annoying. I also have the intermittent door lock problem. Went surfing one time and couldn't get into the darn front door afterwords, it just wouldn't unlock. After about a hundred tries and in desperation, if finally worked. I found if I abruptly open the door handle it opens ever time. Have to jerk it open.

I bought a 2000 GC Limited last year and I have had the power lock and brake light problem. Unfortunately (or fortunately) my brake light issue was resolved when I was rear-ended so my brake lens was replaced.

Resolving the power locks took some investigation. Going to the dealer as ridiculous to the tune of $290 for one door. I ended up calling my local car stereo / alarm installation shop. It was that simple. They have actuators and do the installation. Keep in mind that the parts are after-market, but they are still warrantied. Total cost was $75. Your local Circuit City or Best Buy would suffice.

This is awesome I have been trying to fix the buzzing sound in my front passenger door for months, without the $250 fee the dealership is trying to make me pay for it. My Jeep Grand Cherokee is a 1999 4x4 Limited Editon and I have just passed 207,000 miles on and still running strong with the exception of little things starting to happen. I will look at the site mentioned here for the acuater (sp) for the door lock. I have also had many problems with the left rear tail light, but today have had the worst luck. My brake lights, rear lights, blinkers, radio lights, and lights that light up what gear I am in are all not working. I replaced all of my fuses today and nothing, the darn thing keeps blowing the fuse for the blinkers and tail lights. I am a college student and do not want to bring the jeep into the dealer where they will charge a arm and leg for this fix. I am in a bind and need extreme help to get the fix.

Please if any advice E-mail me at flaggert22@ou.edu.

I recently had to use my Hazard/Flashers on my 2000 JGC. Is there a trick to resetting the button? My User Manual was stolen out of my glove box a couple years ago and I can't get the darn things to go off. I luckily had a rubber-band in my car that night. Now it's the wonderful duct tape. If it's as simple as pushing it back down then it must have broke when I pulled it out. Anyone know?

I have a 1998 GC laredo with 240000 miles. The voltmeter has been steadily declining since november and now here I am with a dead battery. The battery is brand new and I replaced the alterator yesterday however the problem still persists. If I get jumped the car will idle real rough and if I turn the lights on I have to hold the pedal almost WOT to keep the thing running although it is not revving high. While running it has no power to run anything like dome lights or any dash gauges. I need to get this fixed asap so I am not stranded at home. Thanks.

I own a 2003 JGC Overland and I have replaced the front rotors for the second time. The first time I got the dealership to do it because it was still under warranty. This time I personally replaced it with high end and rather expensive grooved rotors with high end brake pads and after 10000 clicks it is warped again. What I did notice when I replaced it is that the right hand side rotor must have generated a tremendous amount of heat because I had to persuade it with a hammer to come off. (The left side just slipped off)

If the car does not pull to one side when I apply the brakes it means that it grips evenly. My question is, what causes the extreme heat on the right hand side??
