I have a 1999 Jimmy with pretty much all of the same concerns. I'm able to live with it, my concern nobody has touhed on. The blower only comes out of the vent position, it won't change to defrost or floor, just stays on vent. OK in summer, but winter is approaching and defrost is needed.
I also have a 2000 jimmy and have experienced all the same problem as everyone else everything has pretty well gone on it except the motor I just don't understand why GM has not addressed any of these problems. They must be aware as sells are done on these trucks.
I own a 98 GMC Jimmy SLT. It has 155K on it. I keep throwing repairs at it since it is cheaper than payments.
So far the:
left rear Bearing failed, Hinge pins replaced, the batter failes every two years with out warning, the key got stuck in the ignition (common with Jimmy's), front left weel bearing.
To remove a stuck key look 2 inches below the key. Pry off a plug and insert a pen. This will disengage the key.
The water in the door is due to a failing hige pins in the door. Bring the car to body shop to have the pins fixed.
I have a 99Jimmy two door 2wd/4wd... lately I've been hearing a loud annoying high pitched hummmm when I accelerate. It usually happens between 0-40 and usually doesn't happen when I press harder on the gas.
Anyone know what this might be? I suspect its my tranny... but I don't know, nor do I have the money for such repairs lol.

I have a 1999 GMC Jimmy 2 door with 220,500 miles. I am having a problem with it at around 70 mph it hesitates. I usually let it warm up for about 5 minutes, since I live in Michigan, where it is cold. It also has a problem with battery terminal and/or cable corrosion. The corrosion causes the vehicle not to start occasionally. I am very stumped as to why it is hesitating. Any help would be appreciated.
Wow! I can't believe how many problems people are having with these! My 1999 Jimmy SLT has 81000 miles on it and I have only one problem with it.
The vacuum that engages the 4x4 went out, but that was like $15 to replace. Of course I've only had this car for a year, but it doesn't look like anything major has been replaced.
I will say that I hope I never get into an accident with it, because a couple months ago someone backed into my front end and I had to replace the metal bumper, bumper cover, and grille, plus the frame was bent and twisted in the front. All from someone backing into my car going about 5mph.
The wheels do squeak nonstop and I can't figure out why. I've heard of this anti brake squeak spray, but I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone know where I can get this?
Other than that, my Jimmy is in great shape and has given me no problems. I would buy from GM again, hands down.
I have a 98 sls Jimmy with 228000 miles on it. Have replace both front wheel bearings, they are wear parts, there is a heating problem with it blowing on vent, not on floor, that is a switch that is really fun to deal with, you have to tear out the dash. Overall though I have been really satisfied with the truck, no major problems that we didn't expect.
We have had our 1999 Jimmy for about a year now. Recently we replaced the alternator and battery. My fiance went out to go to work last week and it wouldn't start. He has tried to jump it which will give it enough power to turn on the lights, etc., but when you turn the key to start it everything goes dead again. And of course, which I hear is pretty common with Jimmy's, the key is locked up in the ignition. So we have a dead Jimmy sitting in the driveway with no power at all... no lights, locks...nothing! Any clues? We have a 1995 Jimmy that has never had a problem besides the normal wear and tear, so we don't have any idea what to do with the 99.
We have the same problem with a 2002 Trailblazer, Key stuck in ignition,. can turn to start position and back to acc. No power to anything no lights no horn nothing not even emergency. flashers checked battery 12 volts tried disconnecting and reconnecting checked all fuses? What can we do other than spending a fortune for a tow to the dealer? Can anybody help?
I have had nothing, but trouble with my 99 since it was new. Bad battery from factory that cracked after 6 months and leaked on the transmission wiring that caused my transmission not to work. Gas gauge doesn't work ($500 repair) everything with a plastic hinge inside is broken (the dealer wanted $297 to replace a lighted mirrored sun visor). (note that I keep my truck garaged) transmission slipping, ball joints replaced, now the valves are making so much noise I'll have to have it towed to a shop to see what's going on. I've heard everything from a bad oil pump. ($600 to $900 repair since the engine has to be raised or removed...60 bucks worth of parts) to oil sending unit that I can't find in the HAYNES manual anyway. This was my last attempt at driving a quality American made truck.It's too expensive. Here I come Toyota...
My 98 jim has 2400 thousand km and I had to replace my pins in the door the bettery is toast and the 4x4 won't go on when I switch it from 2 to 4 it stays on for a sec then clicks back to 2 wheel drive anyone got any ideas for the 4x4 is it the vaccum?
I have 98 Jimmy with 175k miles. Yesterday I went to start it and lost all electrical devices. Seemed like something shorted out. I could not get the key out or shift from park. I have since discovered that the small hole below the ignition switch releases the key by sticking a pen in it, and if you pull up the boot around the gear shifter there is a plastic button (passenger side) you can push to enable the shifter. But still no luck on finding the electrical problem. Has anybody found the cause of this?
I just posted about my 98 jimmy with what appeared to be an electrical problem, key won't come out, can't move gear shift, no power, no nothing. I finally got a hold of my mechanic who says he's seen this before and it's a bad ignition switch. The ignition switch allows power to flow to all other componnets and if this goes, it causes exactly what I was describing. The gear shift won't move because of no power to the BTSI (Brake Transmission Shift Interlock). So you either have to replace the ignition switch yourself, or you can use the manual release of the gear shift and have it towed somewhere to have the ignition switch replaced. About $100 for the parts. Not sure on labor since my mechanic is my cousin and gives me a great deal.
I have a 1997 jimmy and it seems the electrical problems that I've heard so much about are finally with me. I went to the store after washing the jimmy. I locked the doors using the button on the drivers side armrest when I came out of the store (after about an hour & 1/2) it was unlocked.after coming home and having the same thing happen here, it seems that I have a power lock problem. I've been on line 2 hours trying to get info on this and all I've found is that others have this problem (doors that unlock themselves). please, if any knows what causes this, how to fix it or how much it cost to fix it please get back.i don't have a lot of money,do not have a security system and my neighborhood is not the best. thank you so much.
I have a 2000 JIMMY with about 118k miles on it, Had to replace the fuel pump Twice last year. Just got it back. Cost me 1600, 750 for the fuel pump and 750 for the fuel injectors. Now makes a noise I never hear before when I go to 40-45 mph. I am going to sell it soon. before it breaks down again.
