Hello, i have just had the head redone on my 1994 VR, also replacing the harmonic balance, and water pump. There was a tapping noise and lack of power which made me get all of this work done, but once all in and running the tapping noise is still there can any one help with this problem?
I have a 1993 VR Commodore; have just done the fuel pump and filter... however upon start up, the engine cuts out like it has run out of gas; have checked leads, earths, battery amongst other things, but can't figure out how to fix it, any suggestions?
For those of you having the rough idle problem change your temp coolant sensor located behind your alternator we have had this problem with my sons vr and it fixed it costs around $10. So common are the same problems we are currently going through all the sensors one by one as his engine light comes on once you accelerate, rough idle, stalls without indication. so be persistant with them even general motors holden could not find the problem. Throttle sensors are another common one with this model. t.
I used the wrong gearbox oil in my VR. Do I have to replace the gearbox? Or is there some way to fix it? It won't change to 3rd or 4th gear.
Most likely just need to drain it and fill with correct fluid. All oils work well at different temp. Yours prob. doesn't like gearboxes.
Hey guys I have a VR its done just over 300,000kms, but the previous owner was a bodantic and crazy man about driving carefully and looking after it.. Me on the other hand I'm a bit out there and like to give it a thrash. Recently my Autotrans has just began having fits going from 2nd to 3rd and from 3rd to 4th. It sounds like its falling out of gear (because the revs go crazy like 5500) and taking ages to shift into it and the whole car vibrates.. I'm thinking its grinding like what happens when you half engage the clutch in a manual... but I'm not sure.. any ideas?
I have had my VR for 6 months and most is well except for two problems; i) inconsistent fuel starvation when car is hot and cold, and ii) faulty tail/ brake light which works only some of the time (have checked connections which all seem good). Any suggestions?
The VR's are 13 - 15 years old now and usually require a bit more than a quick fix.
- Rough idling and stalling could be more than one cause, and more likely several compounding problems - some mentioned previously, check Temp Sensor, Crank Angle Sensor, Throttle body needs cleaning, idle solenoid on throttle body, spark plugs, HT leads, Fuel pump, fuel filter, vacuum regulator, injectors dirty.
- Power steering pumps leak (common problem) and steering racks need replacing. Handling problems and uneven tire wear from sway bar bushes worn, replace and save on tires. Less burnouts helps also.
- Coolant problems, coolant smell or 'gurgling' sound from heater core - replace all hoses, flush radiator with correct flush (acidic or alkaline) dependent on whether sludge or scale in radiator, and replace pressure valve (on hose running down left hand side of engine on chassis rail - screwed to side wall).
Got My 94 VR Bout 1 year ago, its got 210,000 and still going strong, love having the power the specs only say 130KW but I reckon its got way more, loved the looked on my mates face when I thrashed his VX S does sum killer burnouts aswell but just put 19's on it so I gotta be carefull not burning the rubber.
My VR runs extremely cold when driving, and extremely hot when idling. Would this be a normal thing or is it a fixable problem?
I have replaced radiator and thermostat; still same temps. Any ideas?
I would like to hook up a vacuum gauge to my VR 3.8. Could someone tell which hose to hook into, so I will get a reading on my gauge?
I bought my 1st car, a one owner VR S pack manual with only 125,000kms on it. Have to say they're a pretty impressive car with lots of bottom end power (feels like 1000hp in the wet). Aren't too bad on fuel, ethanol doesn't last long though. However for the power and reliability I love it.
Also manuals go a lot better, geared a little short, but can travel at high speed well.
Handles good; the fe2 isn't the same as later models, but still out handles a lot of cars for its time.
Overall 9/10; great 1st car, don't be disappointed with the new P plate laws; these cars will give a big enough thrill as is.
Got my 93 VR Commodore about a month ago. It's got 180,000 kms on the clock, runs beautifully. Just wondering would 19 inch chromies go well on it without getting it lowered? Any thoughts?
Cheers :)
Hey I have just picked up a real tidy VR Berlina V6, which goes great apart from when started from cold, it only runs on about 5 cylinders. Once warmed up, it's sweet as.
I have replaced the leads as they looked a bit suspect, and threw a new seat of plugs in it and it still does it. I'm now thinking crook coil maybe?
Hey I just had to tell someone. I just bought a 93 VR Berlina.
For $500, it has about 440,000ks but honestly is the best car I have bought. I have tested it at Eastern Creek and does the qtr mile 12.5 in auto. And the best thing is its standard.
I am currently working on the body (respray, kit and lights). And have planned to drop a supercharged V6 from a later model Holden. With a bit of suspension work super low springs and shocks, I should be happy with drag and track work.
