I've had my 2002 Nissan Sentra for several years and didn't start having problems with it until this past year. It seems to suck coolant like there is no tomorrow. The check engine light goes on and off. Also, the main problem is that it doesn't like to start sometimes. It will be just fine for awhile and then all of the sudden it won't start. Has anyone figured out what the problem is?? I'm tired of taking it to the shop and the mechanics telling me they don't know what's wrong or fixing something only to have the problem start all over again???
I bought a 2002 Spec V 2 years ago with 47,000 miles on it. It was great at first! Love the power band. Great torque. That is all I can say positive about this car.
The pre-cat failed and of course Nissan wouldn't cover it and I had to pay for a new engine. Ever since the new engine, the car seems to have a problem delivering power to the front wheels in 1st gear. Seems to be a lot of drag and it seems like I am pulling a 2000 lb trailer. But once I shift to 2nd gear, the power hits and the car is fun to drive.
My sunroof got stuck on OPEN today and it is pouring down rain.
The torque steer is becoming almost uncontrollable since the install of the new engine as well.
My front left wheel fell off while driving. No major damage but scary.
My A/C compressor went out.
The light/sunglass holder is falling down.
When the front wheels spin, for any reason, they bounce up and down violently and very loudly.
The trunk leaks.
The gas cap lanyard broke.
It sometimes simply won't start - I will go disconnect and reconnect the battery and then it will start. WTF? I am scared to drive this car. It has failed in traffic before. I am just very careful.
BW.
I bought a used Spec-V a month ago and have had slight problems with it so far.
Three days in the service engine light came on. We took it in to the stealership for a full diagnostic and they said a hose was leaking and repaired it free of charge.
The interior parts are cheap and the front axle just recently started squeaking. All throughout this process of fine tuning my spec-v I used myspecv.com. This site is a must for all Sentra owners because it provided info for all of the problems I have yet to encounter.
Obviously the ser and spec-v are not for the mechanically challenged. So before you give up on it, take the time to try to work out the flaws for yourself.
With attention, the spec-v will turn out to be the most fun car you've ever owned.
I recently purchased a 2006 Sentra SE-R Spec V with 10900 miles. I haven't had any problems with it yet and it seems to run strong. Fun car to drive. I am currently in the process of upgrading to some performance parts like Cold air intake, headers, exhaust etc.
My opinion is, while I haven't had my car long, with enough people buying a certain type of car, there is always going to be people that have problems all the time and people that have no problems at all. Sometimes it is the car itself and the way it is made, sometimes (more often than not) it is the driver and how they take care of the car. Many time, if you are buying used, it is what took place before you got the car. Maybe the driver drove the car to death, wrecked and rebuilt it or didn't replace the oil for 10,000 miles. You never know. I know that because a car is a big investment that it is hard to do this, but don't let one bad experience ruin your opinion of something. Now if you have bad experiences with 2 of the same car, ditch it because it's a POS.
I own a 2003 Nissan Sentra Spev V and have owned it at 69,000 miles, I just broke 92,000. I do a lot of traveling, and while at first the car was great to drive with it's unbelievable power, after a few weeks the car had trouble starting, thought it might be my fuel pump. After a few weeks it went away, no a year later and I am having power loss, and it cuts out completely at any given moment. Sometimes it will, and other times it does fine,, except at 3 1/2 RPMS it always cuts out at 3 1/2 no matter what. Could this be the previously mentioned mass airflow sensor, and the throttle position sensor? I haven't notice any oil leaks as of yet. Any other suggestions?
