Some of the older situations like the fuel fill location on older trucks, and even like the Pinto gas tank issue, affect redesigns. The government has safety guidelines. We have seat belts, air bags, ABS, crash tests with minimum safety standards. There was a time of no safety glass, no collapsible steering columns, metal dashes, low seats that could cause whiplash, no occupant restraints like seat belts etc. We have come a long way. I don't feel Ford F Series are unsafe today.

I agree. At the turn of the century Henry Ford mass produced affordable Ford automobiles for the average American. Better than getting kicked or thrown off a horse. Definitely improved the quality of life.
