Faults:

Nothing of significant seriousness. The electrics play up from time to time, but a good clean up of the relays usually sorts this out.

Paintwork on the roof and bonnet have deteriorated as the Jeep is kept out in the weather.

Engine-wise the only problem I've had is to replace the crank sensor and starter motor. This is a very good and reliable 4WD.

General Comments:

This vehicle is my only transport, and I find it very reliable both on road and off. Maintenance is the key here, such as the cooling system.

Faults:

First little problem I had was replacing the tires and brakes. That was due to wear and tear.

The major malfunction with this Jeep is the electrical system. The computer on the dash tells us that several things are going wrong, when they have been checked, and they are fine.

The next problem is with the computer box that runs all the electricals through the vehicle. Jeep has replaced this 5 times now, and it is back in to possibly get another at this time. The vehicle quits running, and will not start back up. You wiggle the wires going to the module, and it will start back up. The computer tells the mechanic that it is having multiple misfires. That's it, nothing else.

Just to let you all know, I like the Jeep Grand Cherokee, but do not recommend the Laredo 4.0 Inline 6. I have a Limited Grand Cherokee with the 5.2 318 cub. V8, and it has been the best Jeep I have ever owned.

General Comments:

Love the looks, and all the things that this vehicle has, but not the headaches.

Very disappointed with the displacement and the running power of the motor. Not enough get up and go.

Faults:

Automatic transmission will not change up from 3rd to top until the gearbox has fully warmed up. I have changed the fluid and filter, but no change. Once the vehicle has warmed up, the transmission changes fine.

I find `feathering` the accelerator better than hard revs until the warm up is completed. I have also locked the 2nd gear, which is fine up to 25 mph, and just travel slow until the warm up is complete.

Radiator leaked when purchased. Replaced at a cost of £126.

General Comments:

I purchased this 96` Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 Limited from a workmate, for the amazing low price of £500.

Naturally I knew fuel consumption was high (14mpg), plus the gearbox fault and leaking radiator. My 3 sons are mechanics so I don't need to get my hands dirty these days.

Apart from the trans fault, this vehicle has been a true God-send over our current winter freeze, the worst in 30 years. Ice and snow won't deter my Jeep, and I have never failed to drive the meager 7.5 miles to my place of work and back. I still have my Merc C180, but it has been snowed up in my drive since before Xmas. Plus, with rear wheel drive, I wouldn't dream of attempting to use it.

No problems with any other part of the Jeep; great (if thirsty) engine.

I only cover approx 2000 miles a year in the Jeep. But it has paid for itself over the last 2 weeks.

Superb vehicle, made in mind for Alaska Winters. Best £500 I have ever spent.

Faults:

In the 5 years I owned the Jeep, I replaced the brakes and rotors, tires, exhaust manifold, oil pressure sender, catalytic converter.

I did everything but the catalytic converter myself, since it was recalled and done under warranty.

General Comments:

This was a great vehicle that never let me down. Towed my trailers all across the southeast. I am probably going to regret selling it, but time has come for a more economical vehicle. My neighbor is getting a great deal on a reliable vehicle.

It does drive like a truck and use a lot of gas. Averaged about 16mpg.

Comfortable seats and a decent ride.
