1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 5.2 liter from Puerto Rico

Summary:

A great fun/luxury SUV

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

I believe that even with the mileage that this SUV already has, it's one of the best SUVs that I have ever driven. Everything is perfect with this car.

How can a 4x4 with a 5.2 litre engine warrant 10/10 for running costs, get real, even if the petrol was free, a 6/10 max!

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 Liter 185 hp from North America

Summary:

A little pricey, but a well performing, fun, reliable Jeep

Faults:

None. Only brake rotor recall, and they were replaced. Otherwise, no problems.

General Comments:

Excellent car. Interior comfort is OK, exterior styling and wheels are good.

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4.0 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

1. Headlamp glass fell off.

2. Cruise control failed.

3. Some pump in the engine shorted and would not turn off (lucky the dealer was open).

4. New tyres at 30K miles.

General Comments:

Excellent car. 4.0 engine a bit rough and slow. Next one will be a V8 now that we can get them in the UK. Expensive to run due to 18mpg and expensive insurance, but dealer servicing is reasonable and they are courteous.

A bit cramped in the back seats.

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 from North America

Faults:

Radio was shorting out due to the factory not having attached the ground, dealer fixed it, finally.

Some minor paint problems, the dealer touched them up but I think Jeep should have repainted. Aside from that it has surprised me that I have had no problems at 49K miles, and I tow a 3200 lb ski boat in the Summer.

General Comments:

Good value in an SUV in my opinion for what you get in features and ride/comfort for the money.

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 6 cylinder from North America

Faults:

Brakes and tires wear out faster than any car I have owned. Problems for first 20,000 miles with electronic doo-dads: automatic bright and dimmer on dash flickered constantly, replaced three times. Recall for electric seat power short [when fixed, dealer forgot to put bolts back on that secured seat to floor.]

General Comments:

Why do people buy this car? Service is lousy; maintenance is expensive.

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Stone chips a bit too easily. Can't think of anything else. Front pads can do 18,000 depending on type of miles done.

General Comments:

My second LS400 (first was a Mk 1). Mk3 is even quieter, a good bit faster, more economical and even more reliable. Points which stand out are superb engine, climate control, stereo (which seems to have more oomph than many a car in its own right) and build. Handling on this version has been sharpened a fair bit - mostly it is for the better although it has lost some of the Mk 1's "waft-ability". Generally a better driver car though.

May not have quite the style of the opposition but it is less common on the road than Mercs/Jags etc. When you throw in faultless build, Corolla cost servicing, low depreciation and excellent fuel consumption it is very difficult to pick any holes in the car as an overall package.

Reading the previous comments, the ratings for this persons Jeep are unbelieveable. But you don't need to read between the lines to see that this review is about a Lexus!

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Poorly fitting trim from delivery (not rectified) Leaking Sunroof, Crumbling dash, Bubbling in fuel tank (still uncured) Clonk from transmission, Alarm system didn't work when delivered (Now sorted) Occasional miss when idling, engine cut out with warning light showing twice so far.

General Comments:

Externally a good car to look at. Not practical boot space. Uncomfortable to drive on long journeys. Visibility poor due to low height.

Quick on acceleration (guess everything has at least one good point)

Is it any wonder the British car manufacturer is dying out !
