1985 Pontiac Fiero GT review from North America
"A poorly executed and failed attempt to compete with the Toyota MR2"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Recalled for engine oil leaks and engine fires.
Ignition module failed after 28,000 miles.
Clutch failed after 30,000 miles.
Fuel pump failed after 35,000 miles.
2nd fuel pump failed after 40,000 miles.
2nd clutch failed after 41,000 miles.
3rd fuel pump failed after 47,000 miles.
Passenger seat power window stopped working intermittently after 35,000 miles.
General comments?
This car is fairly quick for its day and handles like it is on rails if pavement is dry.
But if the pavement is wet, it slides all over the road, especially with the stock Goodyear Eagle GT tires.
Interior is cramped and those taller than 5' 11" will have to recline the seat to avoid hitting the roof.
Lack of power steering makes parallel parking an exercise, especially with the original equipment tires.
The headrest mounted stereo speakers are a nice touch, but the quality of the stereo unit is so so.
Interior construction is rather shabby and susceptible to sun damage. The car has no glove compartment or really any storage in the interior at all and only a tiny trunk aft of the engine.
The battery tray is susceptible to rot because the battery itself is exposed to the elements so rain washes over it and the acid rots everything beneath it.
