1993 Toyota Landcruiser All options review from North America
"Tough but unreliable"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
1. Transmission - planetary gear worn; requires tranny rebuild or new tranny: $3,200-$5,000; also a tranny fluid leak.
2. Oil leak.
3. Front end seals and steering knuckles need replacement at $700.
4. CV joints are very expensive. Need replacement at 74k. Cost = $750 PER SIDE = $1500 total!
5. Differential locks do not work.
6. Front passenger seat bolts needed re-tightening.
7. Power locks stopped working.
Overall NOT typical Toyota reliability.
General comments?
Handling is ponderous even for an SUV, but very smooth ride considering 2 solid axles. Very good 4WD system.
Reliability has been horrible. Soccer mom's considering this vehicle should face the fact that they will never use it for what it was meant for: off-roading, and buy a SAFER car or minivan instead, which will also save them major $$.
