1989 Pontiac Grand Prix LE review from North America

"A nice ride, but expensive and frequent repairs"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Burnt out a fuel pump (This was due to the previous owner's neglect in proper fuel filter replacement).

Paint has peeled very badly, large spots across the whole car.

Replaced the brakes.

Replaced a rear shock.

Replaced fuel tank after a large leak was found.

Engine seal replaced.

Rusting, requiring fiberglass fills.

Currently an un-diagnosed blinker problem(Probably a bad connection).

Also, currently experiencing high temperatures, oil loss, and a very rough ride (Also un-diagnosed due to lack of funds from continued visits to the mechanics).

General comments?

This was my very first car and I loved it from the moment I bought it. The seats were comfortable, there seemed to be plenty of space, and it had nifty gadgets like digital displays and a remote trunk opener.

I took good care of my car because I really liked it. Despite this, things started to go wrong every couple of months. It seemed like every four months or so I was in the shop with a repairs over a hundred dollars each time (which is a large amount of money for a student with other bills to pay).

Now there is a mystery problem with the engine. The mechanic said it was probably a bad cylinder, but couldn't be sure without tearing things apart to take a look. It now burns a quart of oil with every fill up and every few months the number three spark plug needs to be changed, which I'm told requires some work to get to. The cost of the labour for this work, the oil, and now fuel injector cleaner that is required to have a non-vibrating ride is not in my current budget, so sadly I have to search for a different vehicle.

I would love to own this vehicle again, don't get me wrong. The gas mileage and features were great, but I can't risk having to have expensive repairs due to the labour time required to reach all of the engines parts.
