1986 Audi Coupe GT review from North America

"Yes"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Power windows, power locks, heated seats, wheel bearings.

General comments?

Well I can say, I have become a Audi GT addict. I have owned 6 coupes, 3 of which I have in my drive way at this moment. 2 I owned in england (a 1.9 litre 81 and a 85 2.2).

So to add my 2 cents on Audi Coupes - if you buy one you will be getting a high quality car for little money. GT's sold well in Europe in the mid 80's, but Audi had a rough time on the sales end here in North America due to a fault with their turbo charged Audi 5000 CD Turbo's. Audi was told their car drove away on them - this was not true, it was the fault of the driver's foot placement and the small pedals.

Back to what I can help you with - don't buy a rough Audi, if it burns blue move on no matter what the price. On the flip side don't be scared of a high mileage Coupe - so long as the engine gives off no smoke go for it. Keep an eye on the idling rev's - if the revs jump up and down you're talking $$.

I have owned many cars, most of which have been fast european cars. You will get a car on par with a 325i BMW. More than likely you will get either a good body or a good engine, rarely will you find both. They are fun cars with some good power and are great on long trips. Parts can be costly if buying new. Try to find used. Even better, find a friend who does work on cars and educate him on Audi's - buy a Haynes manual. Even better if you can buy a parts cars, you will save money in the long run.
