2002 Peugeot 307 SW review from Finland
"Specification and price well mixed"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Week 1, 700 km: Nothing, if not windshield washer ceasing to work. Liquid frozen? Should not have been, if equipped as was promised to be (only -6 in Germany whilst still not working).
Week 2, 1100 km: Installed seats for passengers 6 and 7, noticed that the black plastic trigger on the rear left passenger door was loose at an end. The indicator stalk interior got broken such that neither left nor right signals worked anymore. When driving back home (about 10 km or 6 miles), the car autonomously signaled once to the right on a dual carriageway road, but fortunately there was little traffic and no danger caused that time.
After that the car has been waiting for a new stalk at the local service in UK. The car is to stay about 1/2 year in UK and arranging a courtesy car was slightly complicated, but finally Peugeot did fine with that.
Very dissatisfied in the waiting for the new stalk, knowing it's a model fault. Have had cars since -86 and only once such a problem, in an -82 Sierra and that stalk had already been once fixed by some local hero with steel wire and chewing gum - I successfully repeated the same operation then.
The tail gate goes too close to the rear bumper for snowy conditions where the snow and ice will inevitably scratch the paint away and cause corrosion to the lower corner of the tail gate unless great level of care is applied in the daily handling of the car.
The remote control has a disappointingly short range considering the "show up" -function (giving an audible and visible signal when re-locking the car).
General comments?
The glass roof felt surprisingly good and the 3-lamellae isolated it quite sufficiently in -10 Celsius / 100 km/h. Without them the cold on the neck might become inconvenient in colder than that.
The rear seats do seam to provide sufficient room for at least children.
I also have genuinely liked the adaptive wiper speed and audio volume control (as function of the speed). The heated seats were also quite fit to the Finnish winter, even if the buttons were a bit hard to find and use being in the front corners of the seats and out of sight.
Lots of people have come to look at the car: for example, a ferry worker and later a removal man seeing the car each came to wonder the car. Easy to catch compliments for the appearance.
