2001 Ford Ranger Supercab XLT review from North America
"Poor mileage bargain truck"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
At 13,000 miles I had rear end, U-joint, and driveshaft trouble.
The dealer added liquid metal to the rear end, replaced rear U-joints, and replaced driveshaft with an aluminum driveshaft.
At 27,000 miles, the timing chain, tensioner, and guides had to be replaced.
General comments?
With the exception of transfer case and transmission, the rest of the power train had already been repaired at only 27,000 miles.
4.0 6 cylinder had good acceleration.
Gas mileage was 12 miles per gallon city, and 15 highway. Poor mileage for a 6 cylinder.
Transmission always delayed in shifting
up and down.
