2001 Ford Ranger Edge 3.0 V6 from North America

Faults:

At 127 000 kilometers, clutch hydraulics needed replacing.

I can't see the cup holders at night, very annoying.

General Comments:

Very comfortable on long trips, even though I don't have the extended cab and the interior is small.

Sound system is great, even better with an aftermarket CD player.

Truck looks sweet, the front end makes the truck look like its about to kick some ass.

Ride is smooth and straight, really good with some weight in the back.

The steering wheel is a little hard to turn, but its not bad.

All in all, this ranger edge is alright in my book, I hope it lasts as long as my 87 LTD Crown Victoria LX did...400 000 kilometres!!

2001 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 4.0 from North America

Faults:

Leaking PCV pipe.

General Comments:

This is a Ranger XLT 4x4 supercab with 4 doors. The 4.0 motor in the truck is great. I was surprised how many rpm's the motor turns compared to the 4 liter in my 1993 Ranger. A very powerful motor. Handling is also good.

The big problem is with the gas mileage and the ride. I get less than 15 MPG doing combined city and freeway driving. I just drove 120 miles highway, then 80 miles city/freeway and it only got 15.8 MPG. The ride is also bad. I notice a ton of frame flex on the highway unless carrying about 200 pounds in the bed. I think the 4 doors are the problem.

Overall the main problem with this truck is the gas mileage. I guess the reliability makes up for the lost money on gas.

2001 Ford Ranger Ford XTL 2.3 from North America

Summary:

The truck is very reliable

Faults:

I had to replace clutch at 90,000 miles. The other driver used to ride foot on clutch.

Still have original tires. I am due for tires, but still have tread.

General Comments:

I commute 500 miles a week and have had no problems. This is my third ranger I consider it is very reliable.

Looking for other high mileage ford ranger owners.

2001 Ford Ranger XLT OFF ROAD 4.0 SOHC from North America

Summary:

A beast in a little box!

Faults:

I am a big guy, but I have noticed that my drivers side seat has started to wear. This is frustrating, but it will give me an excuse for replacing them soon!

I had a minor wind leak in my passenger side window. This was covered under warranty... as was the damage caused by the dealer when they "attempted" to fix the problem.

General Comments:

I love this truck. If it was wrecked I would buy another!

I put Rancho shocks on after 50,000 miles. My advise, put aftermarket shocks on after 5 miles!

2001 Ford Ranger XLT 4X4 4L V6 from North America

Summary:

Although a little expensive, it has been relatively trouble free.

Faults:

The interior overhead light had a wire connection that caused it to work intermittently.

Needed to have some repair done to the drive train due to loose fittings that caused a clunking noise when stopping and accelerating.

All work done has been under warranty.

General Comments:

This pickup has given good performance from the 4 liter V6.

I like its looks although the plastic covers on the sides of the bed aren't necessary.

I find it comfortable to ride in for long trips.

2001 Ford Ranger XLT Supercab 2WD 3.0L V6 from North America

Summary:

A great compact pickup

Faults:

There is a bad screeching sound coming from the belts whenever it rains. Not sure what the problem is, but it is more of an annoyance than a real problem.

The latch on my center console has started sticking recently, making it impossible to close the console until the latch can be freed. This is not easy to do while driving.

General Comments:

I have been generally happy with this truck. I drive it often and over long distances with no problems.

Power from the 3.0L engine is adequate in almost any situation. I have had no problems passing on the tollways, even while pulling a 16ft boat.

Power windows and door locks are a great feature, however it would be nice if they would have illuminated the buttons so that I don't wind up unlocking the doors when I'm trying to open a window.

The back swing-out doors are a really great feature, they were what really sold me on this truck. They have come in handy many times and in some cases, the job would have been impossible without them.

Styling overall is good, my only complaint is not having the option of the 5 spoke aluminum wheels available with the 4x4. The 4x2 XLT wheels are 7 spoke steel, but are still nice.
