1998 Dodge Neon Highline review from North America
"A working mans BMW!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Rear brake squealing especially when the weather is damp. Note however that
the original front brake pads and rear
shoes are still in good condition after
173,900km!!
Head gasket changed, under warranty, at
59,500km.I was not impressed to find that the dealership reinstalled the OLD
motor oil!!
Battery changed out after 168,000km, but
that's not bad for Canadian climate as
you really want it to "kick" at -30C!!
Taillight to body gaskets were not watertight... so I removed them, siliconed the gaskets and reinstalled them. No more leaks.
Headlights are not very bright!
Harmonic balancer pulley worn...giving
rise to belt squealing when air conditioner is selected or many electrical users are turned on.
General comments?
This car was my second Neon. The other
is a 1995,still going, with more than 300,000km on it.
Indeed the Neon is the "K-car" of the 90's. But repairs have been minor. I do
change oil and filter EVERY 5000km.This
is of great importance with all engines.
I'm not sure that I would buy another, as after 9 years of driving them
I'm probably due for a change anyway.
