1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS review from North America
"Not a Bad Base to work off of"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Head Gasket leak at 65k Miles, due to high revs and previous owner.
Passenger Side Door slightly off-balanced, causing the door to seal incorrectly.
General comments?
This car is a lot of fun to drive, but the RS and GS are highly underpowered at only 140HP. For the money, a turbo'd GST or GSX is worth it, but the high stress on the DSM's cause them to break sooner. There could be better seats, no side bolstering at all.
If willing to put money into the car, it can become very "quick" for a 4 cylinder, but it isn't going to be running against V8's soon. The 420A (stock motor) is easily turbo'd though, and can run mid- 200 HP without internal work. The car's suspension could use a little tightening, it has a 5 inch ground clearance stock. It is a nice ride though.
