1989 Honda Civic LX review from North America
"Great car, if up kept well"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Previous owner used it as a summer car, so the miles were very low, but unfortunately, he was very bad about maintenence.
Clutch went out at 100,000 miles.
Catalytic Converter died at 102,000.
Front, driver's side hub went out at 105,000 miles, along with the CV axles.
Timing belt broke at 110,000 miles, so I also changed the water pump, which had been leaking oil into the radiator.
Top Radiator hose burst on the freeway (mid summer in Phoenix), resulting in a blown head gasket and cracked block.
General comments?
Handling of the car was excellent!
Always a smooth, fun ride.
Hate working on this car! No room to do anything.
I think if the previous owner had been better on upkeep, the car would've lasted quite along time. Love the car, hate the previous owner. When I did I tune up I found out the car had no thermostat!
