2003 Holden Commodore Executive review from Australia and New Zealand
"It's big, over powered, under engineered, unbalanced and tiring to drive even for 5 minutes!!!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Rear tyre wear is an issue.
I can also smell burning rubber at the rear muffler, even on a very easy drive.
General comments?
This car is overpowered and is in desperate need of a well sorted automatic gearbox and suspension, not to mention traction control.
It is also in need of power windows because for a car of this size, it should be standard!
The drivers seat doesn't go low enough and the lumber support cushion remains out, thus sticking in your back.
It seems Holden listened to the journalists at "MOTOR" magazine and altered the vehicle from perfect VT (which I drove as a volunteer at the Sydney Olympics for 2 weeks) to awful VY (which I drive on occasion because my VH is better).
The engine revs nicely from the top end, but when you listen to the crank shaft, all you hear is a clacking sound which even my VH (1983 Commodore) doesn't make!
Also the steering has a lack of feel and is very slow in its gearing.
The only positives are:
1: Cavernous interior
2: Superb audio system
3: Excellent styling.
