1987 Pontiac Fiero SE review from North America
"Stupid Fun"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The Previous owner had only an oil pump problem.
Oh yeah. Had to replace the tires a couple of times.
General comments?
I bought this car last year from a sweet little old lady for $1500 running and driving great. The only problem it had was that the 2.5 four cyl had too little power for me. I'm pretty heavy into the Sport Compact scene and have a lot of experience with front Wheel drive performance. When I saw the Fiero, my car couldn't stop fast enough. The lady had put it for sale only 2 hours before I got there and someone else had already asked her about it. There was no way I was going to let someone else get that little gem of a car so I bought it from her on the spot. I've been investigating newer engines for this wonderful car and finally settled on it. The Fiero now hosts a turbocharged 2.2L ecotec motor that started life in a 2005 Chevy Caviler as a NA 140hp and 150lbs/tq and now give life to a Fiero as turbocharged, water-intercooled, 328hp 293lbs/tq (@17lbs boost) beast of a machine. The best thing I found about this motor is that it weighs appx 380lbs. Less than the stock motor in a Fiero so now it not only has more power, but it's power/weight ratio has been improved. I've owned Mustangs and Preludes alike and have never had as much fun in them as I have in a Fiero.
All I can say it that the Fiero makes the perfect sleeper. If you can even still find one in good condition, BUY IT!!!
