1987 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 review from North America
"Make one hell of a patrol car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Tire blew finally. It had a busted belt from Gatlinburg TN all the way to Tifton GA, and still had 32 lbs in it after travelling I-75 at 80 the whole way.
Windshield wiper motor sporatically turned on for a stroke or two, but gave out 4 months after the anomaly began due to a gear stripping on my way to Panama City Beach. only 55 bucks to replace.
Gas gauge is off. Runs out at a quarter of a tank. Bobber must be stuck.
Custom sunroof leaks due to no fault of manufacturer.
Steering wheel covering ripping and head liner sagging. Not surprising after all the long road trips I have taken it on.
Exhaust clamps rusted through.
Clutch link going out in reverse. Simple fix.
General comments?
I played around with vettes on I-69 north of Fort Wayne IN. Fast. Almost too fast. First and second gear a bit slow, but third takes off and it hits 90 in fourth without redlining the tachometer. Hits 120 at 4000 RPM in fifth. Lower gear ratios and this car would take off the ground.
We bought the car in Fort Wayne and it has made it all over the country with no major repairs. Used less than 200 dollars going from northern IN to Florida, and then over to Tulsa Oklahoma. Still purrs like a kitten. I wouldn't trade this car for the world.
