2007 Ford Five Hundred SEL 2WD 3L

Summary:

Time will tell...

Faults:

My power window switches on both driver's side doors had to be replaced, due to them being intermittent. Front switch even took a few attempts prior to getting the window to go up.

Rear rugs have loose strings already, and I have had few passengers in the rear.

Fuel injector tick (normal according to the TSB) is louder than is necessary or reasonable.

Blower motor sounds like something is flapping within it (normal according to my dealership).

Brakes became noisy after the first oil change. Dealership advises that Ford engineering has a "fix" and that new equipment will be available this month. TSB has been issued.

General Comments:

Fuel mileage is excellent for this size of car. It beats that of a Taurus, according to fueleconomy.gov.

Styling is second to none, and I am shocked that Ford has not sold more of these units.

Roominess is also second to none, especially for the price range this car falls into.

The problems I have explained above do not leave any owner with a good taste of Ford products. A new vehicle should not have these problems, and there is no excuse, considering I have not purchased a first year of manufacture car. I am quite upset that the fuel injector tick is considered normal, as this is crude.

2006 Ford Five Hundred SEL AWD unsure

Summary:

Please Ford, add some more horsepower to these very nice and very roomy cars!!

Faults:

Nothing!!!

General Comments:

I had traded my 2001 Chevrolet Impala in for the 2006 Five Hundred SEL with all wheel drive. Mine is a shiny black color with a grey leather interior.

A good friend of mine has one, and encouraged me to trade my Impala in for it, and I did just that. At first, I was hesitant about the Five Hundred at first, but when I test drove a Five Hundred SEL like mine, that is when I picked out the color, and I got a black one.

It is quite roomy for its size. The trunk is huge!! What it does need big time, is some more horsepower. My beige Impala was pretty quick, but not overly quick. The Five Hundred could definitely use a good 30 or more horsepower added to what it has now.

Grant you that this a very good car, but I definitely wish that Ford would add some more horsepower to this car. If so, this car would definitely sell way better than it is now. On the other hand, I strongly recommend this car if you are in the market for a roomy and a safe family sedan.

They ought to add a 4.0 liter DOCH engine for the 500 as an available option, or even the 4.6, then it would compete better with the V8 Impala and surpass the V6 Camry. Besides the lack of power, the Five Hundered seems to be a great new car that is gaining popularity. Kudos to Ford!

2006 Ford Five Hundred SE 3.0

Summary:

My Worst Nightmare

Faults:

Brakes were defective and had to be replaced twice because the car violently shook when brakes were applied.

Carpets tore for no reason and had to be replaced.

Engine has a loud knock.

Heating and cooling unit makes strange noise under the dash.

Power window on driver's door goes backwards.

Tires knock against tire guards over small bumps.

Takes too long to start.

Wipers had to be replaced 3 x because they tore.

General Comments:

I have only had the car for one month (but I am at 8K) and am not impressed with all the things that have gone wrong. The dealer offers little help. My advice to people is to buy Japanese, Korean, or GM because Ford has hit rock bottom, this car should not have come to the marketplace.

Ford is actually doing very well, compared to GM, who is struggling to keep customers (which is why they're coming out with new versions of all their models) But if you're into mid size sedans or larger, definitely try out the Chevy Impala or the Buick Lucerne (both cars offer optional V8's). Don't give up on American cars, there are more cars out there than just your problematic Ford. But yeah, all those problems on a brand new car is absolutely unacceptable. Maybe they should consider a recall...
