2000 Jaguar S-Type 4.0L V8

Summary:

I love to drive it, but not worth trying to own it

Faults:

Engine gasket seal.

Sunroof.

Window motors.

Batteries twice.

Shocks.

Engine fan.

Engine carbons up, needs cleaning and fuel cleaner regularly.

Many other small problems.

General Comments:

Wonderful to drive. Corners very well for a big sedan. V8 has lots of power for take-offs, passing, or opening up on the highway. Comfortable and well designed inside. Great luxury and convenience features. A real head turner.

And a complete nightmare to own. In the shop every six months or less for the past few years. Repairs in the low thousands through Jaguar, and is difficult for smaller, cheaper shops to diagnose. Took over a week to get a sunroof, a week for some other parts. Vehicle ended up costing as much again as we paid for it.

If they get their quality act together, the luxury and performance elements were good enough that I'd try to own one again, but only if I were making substantially more money than I make now.

Have owned a 2000 S-type 4L for almost four years (bought it used) and it has been fantastic. Not one single problem; not one single repair. It gets its regular annual maintenance (lube, oil, filter, etc.) and tires rotated. This car is a pleasure to drive and definitely a keeper.

2000 Jaguar S-Type

Summary:

Crummy car for a high price. Will buy a Mercedes next time

Faults:

Oh my beautiful pile of metal. My Jaguar has very low miles and here is what is going on with it.

First the gears started sticking, then my car would not go in drive and only in reverse, now my car drives fine but doesn't go in reverse, and when you put the car in Neutral it goes forward.

This is a pile of junk. Jaguar's are high maintenance, pieces of junk.

I am now going to part this car out, I think. With a little over 18,000 miles, this car has been the worst car I have ever owned.

General Comments:

My Jaguar S-Type R supercharged is a pile of junk.

2000 Jaguar S-Type V6

Summary:

Great looks, so keep it the showroom and don't buy

Faults:

Fixed faulty passenger window.

Replaced coolant reservoir.

Sticky trunk release.

Rear seat belt won't retract.

Only blows cold air even when heater is on.

Sluggish shifting. Today, "gear box fault" came on. The car is jerking and check engine light is on. Only have 50,500 miles on the car.

General Comments:

Too many problems with this car. If there is any action against the manufacturer, please let me know.

2000 Jaguar S-Type 3.0 Liter

Summary:

If you are looking for a lawn ornament go for it, for daily driving get something more reliable

Faults:

Apart from the repairs being super expensive, I did not especially appreciate the fact that you had to go to Jaguar to buy tail light bulbs for the S-Type. I got charged 20 times what a bulb is worth.

The overflow had to be replaced and the radiator hose (upper) had to be replaced also. The man hours involved in changing the overflow bottle was crazy, it would have been cheaper to buy another car. The radiator hose when I had it replaced, I found out, they changed the size (diameter) of the smaller hoses that connect to this hose, so needless to say, I had to buy all the other smaller hoses. 800.00 dollars later, the car was running again. Ridiculous service fees.

Brakes and transmission work is way over priced and surprisingly, not a quality job or a quality part.

General Comments:

This car is a beautiful looker, the body lines and style of this vehicle screams luxury and style, unfortunately the repairs will hit you hard in the pocket book. No matter who you are or your income level, you will soon realize that the costs involved to repair this car will make a light go off in your head, making you realize why buying a low priced Jaguar used is just not worth it.
