Summary:

Works for me

It's just a car, nothing extra. But then that's all you pay for.

1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4 Door 4.0 Litre

Faults:

The only problems with the truck were encountered within 2 months of delivery. First, there was a paint flaw on the front passenger side door. It was repaired under warranty. Second, it was recalled to replace the spark plugs because they caused the truck to fail California emissions (I live in Virginia). Third, the regulator in the front drivers door broke causing the power window to fall into the door and not roll up. All problems were fixed expediously and at no charge. It has now been 9 months without any problems.

General Comments:

This is my third Cherokee. The overall ride, comfort, and ergonomics of the newer model (1997-2000) are a marked improvement over my 1995 and 1990 models. The features are now more car-like and the slightly rounded exterior makes for a nice looking but familiar package. The beauty of the Cherokee is that the style does not age. Reliability remains good. With 18K on the odometer in 10 months, I have no reason to believe that it won't also go the 100K+ miles of my last two Jeeps. Additionally, the 4.0 litre engine is responsive off the line and substantially quicker than other more expensive luxury sport-utes. It is a powerhouse in a sleeper package.

I encourage anyone that wants a great sport-ute with features at a price that won't break the bank to consider the Cherokee. If it is trendsetting that you want to do, the Cherokee is not for you. However, if you like the feel of a comfortable pair of blue-jeans, the Cherokee can be your best friend.

Why would you race with a Cherokee in the first place??

Yeah, why would you race with a Jeep Cherokee, or any jeep for that matter? I agree that it is one of the more quick and responsive SUV's, but they weren't meant for racing. I don't think those Hondas were made for off-roading.
