2000 Oldsmobile Alero GLS 3.4L V6

Summary:

Not a good choice

Faults:

Brakes are constantly grinding.

The door has made a loud popping noise on several occasions and fixed.

Molding on rear windshield fell off and replaced.

Steering males noise when I turn.

Cd palyer sucks.

Dome light fell off twice.

General Comments:

The car is fast and has good performance, but it seems to always have a problem and it is no longer under warranty so it will probably get really expensive.

I have a 2000 Alero. I have put 3 sets of brakes on it and I don't have the money to get it fixed again. I still have 2 years to pay on the car. The paint on the back and front bumper is cracking. The rear window defogger has never worked since I bought the car. I have had several Cavaliers and I think as soon as I can I will get rid of this car and purchase a Cavalier. I will never buy an other Oldsmobile.

Summary:

Don't pass this thing up! If you can catch it!

Faults:

Bad water pump, no big deal. I had them replace the serpentine belt due to general wear and tear.

General Comments:

This car is sooo pretty. I am 23 years old and my friends are surprised when I say I decided to buy an Olds, until they see it. The interior is great for communting, pretty comfortable. I got this green metallic paint that I keep getting compliments on. The 3.4 v6 is so quick its amazing, and relatively smooth. Tranny is good, smooth at 33k miles. I had 15 grand to spend and was tired of the ubiquitous Japanese Cars that you could call Hondoytaishi because they all look the same and have no character. Consider this car. If a 23 year old thinks its cool, its okay to drive to an Olds!

I agree man, I have a 2003, also green, with the 3.4 V6 and I love it, my friends love it, and my co-workers think it is pimpin, so yeah, I agree with you. All I have to say is, do the maintenance required or you will run into costly problems.

Summary:

Better to buy used, better value

Faults:

Have had 2 sets of rotors installed. First at around 12000 miles and again around 30000. Problem happening again... at 48K Transmission has been looked at twice, first time you put it in drive in the am there is a noticeable pause before engaging... problems ahead I sure.

General Comments:

OK car for the money, although trade in value is less than half what I paid for it. Would not have happened with a Honda or Toyota.

2000 Oldsmobile Alero GLS

Summary:

Rotor issues galore, but great otherwise

Faults:

I have had the rotors resurfaced on three occasions (first at 9000 miles) and replaced twice. They are beginning to pulsate again (at 45000)

The antennae had a "disconnect" somehow. They repaired easily

I am hearing a noise from engine that sounds "diesel-like," in past month, but the dealership says it's OK. Anyone else having this problem?

General Comments:

I love my car except for this constant rotor issue. If this is a manufacturer defect (which I have heard from at least two dealerships), why is it my problem to continuing paying for the repairs or replacement. I have over $4000 in GM Card savings toward purchase of a new GM next year and I will seriously consider moving to a foreign vehicle simply for this reason.

I am writing a direct letter GM and threatening Lemon Law (in two point font between each line) regarding the rotor issue. Maybe they'll get the picture. If I get anywhere, I'll write back. At minimum, they'll be covering the rotors till my extended warranty is up at 75,000.

I have a 2000 GLS model and had it since 6/00. I'm hearing the same diesel-like noise when I start it. It seems to go away after the engine kicks down. I haven't got it looked at yet. I've replaced my breaks twice, and am about to get them looked at again. My directionals and hazard lights will frequently stop working, and there is also a grinding noise int he steering when I turn. I have 60,000+ miles on it so everything is out of warranty. If you have any suggestions, please let me know!!! I will be buying foreign from here on!
