2000 Oldsmobile Alero GLS 2.4L 4 cylinder

Summary:

Sports car, with the price and affordability of an economy car

Faults:

Passenger window guide track broken had to be replaced 3000 km 300 Canadian.

Passenger seat back broken had to be replaced this was about 700 Canadian.

Defective stereo replaced.

Fog lamps replaced 10-15 times in the life of the car.

Car would not idle properly the dealer charged me 300 to replace the spark plugs their excuse was the diagnostic machine took 3 hours to complete.

Driver window guide track broken had to be replaced 10,000 km.

Fuel consumption goes out the window after 120,000 km not one Car Company can tell me what to fix.

Heater blower stopped working replacement was the only option this was 600 Canadian.

Fuel pump blew at 125,000 km.

There has been a grinding noise ever since 60,000 but the car company says nothing is wrong.

Seats are wearing very badly.

General Comments:

This car is quick, responsive, handles corners beautifully. Its great in slippery conditions.

It's a very fun and stylish car.

Insurance is to high for a 2.4 liter engine.

The over all costs are manageable if you can afford $1000 repair bill at random times, but not all the time.

I do wish there were more aftermarket parts to accent my car better.

2000 Oldsmobile Alero LX 6 cylinder.

Summary:

Nightmare car! Never ever buy this car!

Faults:

First 5,000 miles the AC went, then the leather paneling came off one door, then another door.

Then the sun visor came off in my hand while driving, then the rear view mirror also came off in my hand while driving.

Two speakers blew (I like soft rock if that tells you anything about how ridiculous that is), the CD player stopped working, and I can hardly remember all the rest, because that was all under warranty in the first year. Oh, and something was recalled too.

After the warranty ended and at about 45,000 miles, the car was having a problem starting. I had to slam the gas pedal down and it finally would start. Took it into the Olds. dealer, who charged me $100 to run a diagnostic and tell me it starts for them, NOTHING is wrong. Did it time and time again over the last six months.

Finally now, it won't start at all. I'm at 56,000 miles. I paid $50.00 to tow it to the dealership. They tell me it's NOW the fuel pump, and it's $600 plus another diagnostic fee.

General Comments:

My 2000 Oldsmobile Alero is the WORST car I have ever owned! I wish I could still file a complaint for "the lemon" law, but I have dealt with it this long, and since it's a lease, I turn it in next month. Three years old and a thousand problems later!

I have been having the same problems with my 2001 alero. IT has been having hard starts, and the dealer hasn't corrected the problem. I believe it is the fuel pump or distributor, but have no evidence from the dealer to prove this.

2000 Oldsmobile Alero GLX V6

Summary:

Decent price, skeptical about customer service

Faults:

Resistor Pack for Fan Blower - Fan would only work at certain settings.

Wheel/Tire "grinding" noise - typical to Alero/Grand Am/etc. Waiting for Oldsmobile to comply with fix that is now out since 10-15,000 miles.

Terrible wind noise, especially through driver's side window since purchase.

One tire keeps going low.

Check Engine light - reset after unable to diagnose, back on again and will be taking the vehicle in this weekend.

Trunk is way too hard to close.

New rotors needed after 10-15,000 miles.

General Comments:

Liked the style and performance of the Alero.

Was hoping for Oldsmobile quality and ended up with Pontiac quality.

Overall, car has been reliable, with the above listed annoyances.

More frustrating part of GM overall is not the minor vehicle issues as much as their lack of resolve to get them fixed. 1998 Cavalier was a lemon to everyone except GM. Finally took a loss on it to get rid of it while I could.
