2003 Acura TL Type S 3.2 V6 from North America

Summary:

Poor long term reliability

Faults:

Drivers seat motor failure at 9,100.

CD changer failed twice, 31,230 miles and 44,300 miles.

Motor mounts at 48,700.

Transmission failed dramatically at 52,230 miles. While driving at highway speeds on a wet surface, the transmission shifted from 5th to 2nd gear causing loss of control and serious condition. Since the VIN on our TL was not listed in the safety recall, we never received a warning of this serious safety hazard.

General Comments:

Initial impression of this car was great.

As defects surfaced, the shine wore thin.

Same issue here. Same car. Contact me at patrizianoelle@gmail.com - I might be able to help. BTW, I have learned that the manufacturer, in this case that would be the Acura, right? They aren't in control of which VIN is listed, which VIN gets taken off the recall list. The info I got few days ago from the NHTSA.

2003 Acura TL S from North America

Faults:

My transmission started slipping.

It was not listed under the VIN number warranty. I called the dealer with a description of the issue, and they said the chances of it falling under the recall were slim, and that I would probably need a new transmission around $3500.

I had the car towed, and went to see them with all of the complaints from this website, and mentioned that I was aware that Acura had many transmission problems and was involved in a class action lawsuit. He seemed surprised that I knew so much information. Needless to say, he called this afternoon and even though the "problem" with my transmission had nothing to do with all of the recall issues, Acura was willing to put in a new transmission and they would cover 95% of the costs. I urge anyone who is having these problems to bring all of this info with you!

General Comments:

My "new" transmission will also have a 3 year 36000 mile warranty. Please make sure not to give up, be nice and well prepared with the dealer.

2003 Acura TL S Type 3.2L from North America

Summary:

Would never buy another one as it is been an endless cost to me. Miss my Pontiac GTO dearly

Faults:

Transmission went out at 87,000 miles.

Heated driver seat never worked.

Valve stems go bad every other month.

Can't keep tires on it... and I do NOT drive it recklessly, and they are aligned and balanced. Not cheap tires either.

General Comments:

Drives nice.

Interior is nice.

Summary:

Lemon

Faults:

I have had this car for two months, and now the transmission is out of it. I had the transmission fluid changed; it lasted two months.

Well I have paid two payments on it, why is the transmission so high - 3200 hundred dollars.

Thanks.

2003 Acura TL 3.2 V6 from North America

Summary:

Unreliable and built with inferior parts

Faults:

Transmission first failed at 60K miles. I was not aware of Acura's massive transmission recall on 01,02 and 03 models or would never have purchased this used car.

The transmission was rebuilt two months ago and it failed again last week and is in the shop for repairs again.

General Comments:

Very unreliable and am having mechanical issues that a car should not have at under 60K miles.

I will never buy another Acura or Honda product again.

2003 Acura TL Type S 3.2 from North America

Summary:

Nice car, questionable transmission

Faults:

Bought a TL Type S with 28,500 miles. Heard about transmission problems, but thought I was purchasing Honda reliability.

Recently, with 32000 miles, the transmission started slipping + rough shifts. I have not abused this car (I have floored it 3 or 4 times but thought that this is why I bought a type S). Luckily I purchased an extended warranty as my VIN number is not covered to 109,000 miles.

So far my Triumph TR-6 was more reliable!

General Comments:

Comfortable, fast.

2003 Acura TL Type S 3.2 from North America

Summary:

North American built Honda/Acuras are no better than domestic makes

Faults:

I was driving along, and the D5 light starting blinking. I continued for about 100 metres, and the transmission started 'slipping' and over-revving the engine. I had to have the thing towed. It is currently sitting in the dealership getting a new (rebuilt) transmission installed in it.

I plan on selling it when it comes back. After reading the reviews here, and on other sites, I won't trust the vehicle any more.

About the only good thing about this, is that it is covered under the extended warranty plan.

General Comments:

I have had a few problems with this vehicle, including exterior window trip pieces that delaminated, problems with the seat leather wearing prematurely, the stereo system was inhabited by gremlins that randomly chose radio stations and CD settings.

The vehicle is hard on ball joints, (third replacement-first two under warranty) and front end brakes.

For a relatively low mileage vehicle, it seems to wear quickly.
