2002 Audi A4 1.8 Turbo 1.8 liter turbo four cylinder from North America

Summary:

A German piece of art

Faults:

The headlights and taillights have burned out several times.

Nothing other than that.

General Comments:

This has been my favorite car that I have ever owned. It has the power to push you back in your seat and it still rides as smooth a limo.

I highly reccomend this car.

2002 Audi A4 1.8T from North America

Faults:

When starting the car, the engine idles very low and the car seems like it is going to die.

The car died twice while trying to start the engine.

General Comments:

I love the car and have had no problems with it, other than this low idle problem.

2002 Audi A4 3.0 from North America

Summary:

You can't afford not to drive an Audi

Faults:

The only major problem I am aware of with this vehicle would be the ignition coils. They went on my car at around 20 k miles. The dealer had it fixed in under 3 days and provided a loaner. No other problems.

General Comments:

Looked at Jaguar X Type, Mercedes C Class, BMW and Volvo S60. I feel that the Audi is the better car. Fit and finish is superb. Handling not quite as good as BMW, but close enough. Besides, Audi's AWD system is by far the best in the field.

In live in Ct. where the winters can get bad. My driveway is over 350 ft straight up hill. Many 4 wheelers have been stuck in my driveway, including my previous vehicle, a '99 4Runner. Never my Audi.

2002 Audi A4 1.8T from North America

Summary:

An engineering and service tragedy for a car with potential.

Faults:

Individual radio speakers cut out at times and require volume to be turned above 15 or 16 to restore.

Home-Link garage door opening system works only every 4th or 5th time.

Climate control fan occasionally jumps from minimum to maximum when pressing the fan-down button to turn off.

Controls on driver side (windows, locks, etc.) do not light up.

For 3 days, speedometer floated up and down by 10 kilometers per hour while driving, and would not move outside the range of 10 to 70 kilometers per hour, regardless of vehicle speed.

Remote key-less entry turns off alarm, but does not unlock the door. The key must be used after using the fob.

The power door locks do not function on the driver door.

All power window controls do not function, preventing the opening of windows in the vehicle. This has clear safety implications.

Door buzzer sounds constantly while driving the car.

Interior light does not turn off while car is running, even while driving. This is very unsafe at night.

Passenger seat squeaks constantly from normal vibration of the vehicle while driving at speeds above 90 kilometers per hour.

Two ignition coils have failed in the vehicle at different times, both requiring replacement. This issue was also the subject of a recall by Audi.

Rear passenger-side seat, once folded down, would not refasten in the upright position, causing the seat to fall forward if the vehicle stopped quickly.

General Comments:

This car has significant, recurring electrical issues that pose obvious safety risks to the driver and passengers.

The car has required over a dozen service visits over the past year to address these issues, and the issues persist.

I advise doing serious research before buying an A4 to make sure that these issues are resolved.

Your problems sound extensive.

What year and model type do you drive?

Also, did you buy your car new or used?

My 2004 has given no problems, I know the 2002 model had some problems. I think they have since improved quality greatly.

Buy a new one!

They are much improved!

2002 Audi A4 2.4 petrol from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

My dream car

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

I made a decision that I was going to indulge myself and get a car that I really wanted – no compromises. I spent lot of time and effort researching what car I was going to buy and opted for the Audi because of its reputation, style and equipment. I ended up getting the 2.4 V6 with the multitronic transmission.

I do a lot of country driving, often 300 to 600 kilometers a day on indifferent Australian roads. The A4 has met all my expectations: it is surprisingly economical, handles well, cruises at the speed limit (actually some way above) in a relaxed way. I especially love the transmission, it gets off the mark quickly and then when it has reached cruising speed goes back to 1800 revs. On the windy roads I use the 6-speed semi automatic which makes the driving fun.

My only reservations are very minor. It uses a more oil than I expected. On one long trip the ‘low oil’ light came on and now I carry a liter bottle with me all the time.

Overall, I just love it!

I have an Audi A4 1.8T Quattro and have about 20,000 miles. I have not had one problem with the car yet. It doesn't burn any oil between 5000 mile changes. This has been the most reliable and most enjoyable car I have ever owned. It's a flawless car (except for a view scratches in the bumper).
