1986 BMW 3 Series ES 2.7 liter striaght 6 from North America

Faults:

It has a bit of rust on the driver door and a little on the trunk.

Clear coat is starting to peel off.

Needed need fan control switch for heater and a new radiator hose which I took off my old car.

General Comments:

This is the best car ever.

Crashed through a wooden and chain link fence at the same time, and not even a scratch except the license plate was bent a little.

VERY STRONG CAR!!!

1986 BMW 3 Series 325e from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Takes work, but is great to drive!

Faults:

Tail-shaft/Universal Joint unbalanced, there is an awful shudder as you take off through the gears (auto).

Door handles and window winders snap and break to pieces.

Boot mechanism bent slightly - boot wouldn't shut at all.

Needed a new transmission at approx 180,000 - kept stalling itself everytime the car was started, became hard to take off, started to rev and not go very far, eventually just wouldn't drive anymore, $3000 later, the gear stick wasn't put in correctly and the stick doesn't click into gear properly in reverse. Not the cars fault - the mechanics!

Lights for inspection/coolant/ etc continue to stay on, have to get the little plug in thing to make them go off... I don't live close to a BMW dealer/specialist so this is hard.

General Comments:

This was a great car when I bought it, it had so much guts for the size of it. Make sure you care for the car and continue to have it serviced, not like me.

Otherwise, a fantastic looking car, not the best on fuel, but great to drive especially for its age!

Your u-joints are bad, so you need your drive shaft rebuilt... it's pricey, but worth it!

BMW's aren't known for reliable autos much like Ford. But also like Ford, if you get a 5 speed, it'll make the car much more reliable!

There's a very simple resetting method to get the lights to shut off. Do a Google search or email me at sjcrail@_hotmail.com

1986 BMW 3 Series 324 2.4 diesel from Lithuania

Summary:

One of the best BMW, and definitely superb first car

Faults:

Front seats were totally worn out.

Draining rails (don't know which) got junked, thus water would get into, and keep on the car's floor. (264k km)

All hinges wore out (by the 274k km)

Heater failed. It wouldn't blow hot air. (273k km)

One of the rear springs broke (267k km)

General Comments:

My BMW was 4door sedan, with KameiX body kit, and lowered springs. So it looked really good.

Engine was an upset in performance, but a relief in fuel saving - 88bhp, while 7l/100km (36mpg).

Lowered (original) springs did they job, and the car handled superbly.

Noise level in the car was too high, when driving above 90km/h (55miles/h).

1986 BMW 3 Series 325es 2.7 Inline 6 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Absolutely Amazing

Faults:

Idle was very rough when car ran for a long period of time.

Rest of things that went bad on the car was simply regular maintenance Such as paint, brakes, tires, plugs, wires, oil changes, etc.

General Comments:

This car was absolutely amazing. I was truly in love with it. I bought it when it was rather beat up. Only paid $800 and then painted it re-did the wheels, put a high performance exhaust on it (which by the way sounded excellent) I put at most $600 into the car in the entire 2 years I had owned it! I thought that was spectacular especially considering I spent $350 on the paint alone. The car was pretty quick and very responsive. I had a blast every single time I drove this car. It also handled like a go-kart, an absolute blast! Unfortunately, after two years the idle was getting extremely rough and it was pushing black smoke out of the pipes. I had assumed I blew the head gasket, but wasn't positive. My friend gave me a decent offer for it ($1500) so I made a mistake and sold it. I have been searching all around for another one and haven't yet found the "right" deal just yet. I highly recommend this car. You WON'T be let down!

Hey man, I just want to know where you're located to get a paintjob for 350 bucks, and only putting 600 into the car with a high performance exaust also..

Please contact me; my phone number is 201 724 3710. I just bought one and I need to learn more about it. It's pretty beat up as well.
