1984 Buick LeSabre Custom 5L Olds from North America

Summary:

Sentimental, like high milage without oil usage

Faults:

Intake manifold, transmission, axle.

General Comments:

My father was given the car new from his company and allowed me to drive it. I probably took over full responsibility around 1990. Most of the time except recently it has been my primary vehicle.

The car overheating twice, once for over 45 minutes once off. At both times under 50k.

It can nickle and dime me but never uses a drop of oil. Engine has never been overhauled. It still drives as before.

Cosmetic wear is mainly on the inside, although it has minor rust damage at the ground.

I changed the timing chain.

It has given me very little trouble over the last ten years.

Recently because of my extended international work, I have driven it very little. Storing it up to four years with proper chemicals doesn't appear to damage the car. I'd like to do some bodywork, both interior and exterior, because at some time I'd like to pass it to my son. Body parts are very difficult to find so I have been collecting parts for restoration when I am in the country.

1984 Buick LeSabre Limited 5.0L (307) V8 from North America

Summary:

I love it

Faults:

Transmission was bad when I purchased the car.

Alternator failed a little over 120K miles.

Radiator sprung a leak at 125K miles.

Wheel bearings.

Exhaust.

Suspension.

And the air conditioning.

General Comments:

I love this car. I bought this car in the summer of 2007, and after a little work, I had an excellent daily driver. Before this car, I drove a clunker. And did not think I'd ever own another GM, but I changed my mind after getting this set of wheels.

It took a little TLC, but once it got going, it went great.

The interior in this car is immaculate, and the old owner had the headliner replaced before I got it, so that worked out good. It has a nice looking burgundy interior with very comfortable pillow seats. The wood grain on the door panels and dash really sets off the interior as well.

The outside of the car is a good looking bright white with a white full vinyl top that has been replaced. It originally had a black vinyl top on it, but it was cracked and faded real bad, so I decided to get the top replaced in the color of the paint. It also has a nice set of locking wire wheel covers that replaced the plain Jane looking flat hubcaps that were on when I bought the car.

The air conditioning does not work, and I don't plan on fixing it. I like having the windows down, so that works out for me.

I am the third owner of this car and plan on keeping it forever. It is a great car and an awesome daily driver. And looks beautiful too.

1984 Buick LeSabre Limited 5.0 V8 from North America

Summary:

This is a beautiful American classic automobile

Faults:

When I got this car, I had to replace the alternator, and have a new exhaust system installed.

I also had to replace the water pump a month after purchase.

I also had a new headliner installed.

I also had a new vinyl roof installed.

General Comments:

I love this car. The car rides down the highway like it's a living room on wheels.

It's the 2 door model, which is getting hard to find these days. It was repainted a month before I purchased it, and it was painted its original color, which is light blue. It also has a vinyl roof that is about a year old, and still in beautiful shape in dark blue.

The dark blue cloth interior is also in beautiful shape. It has no cracks in the dash or steering wheel like I've seen on many of these cars.

The seats are beautiful, and the rear seat looks like it has never been sat it. The front seats also do not have any tears, rips, burns, or sunfade in them.

The door panels are also beautiful, with no sunfade on the woodgrain tops. The carpet is also beautiful, with the exception it could use a good cleaning.

The new headliner is good; the old one used to hang low, which is no surprise for one of these old cars.

The car also has new weather stripping around both doors and trunk, which is about 5 years old and still excellent.

I have 2 sets of hubcaps for this car. I have the spoke ones on during the summer. I use the flat hubcaps during winter, so the spokes won't get messed up.

This is a wonderful find - you're lucky. I'm happy to hear another of these rare old gems has found its way to someone who appreciates it, and will give it the best of care.

It will last you another decade - imagine how strange it will look driving this beautiful artifact down the road in 2020! Most people probably won't even be able to afford cars by then.

You were pretty much right, world is a mess in 2020/2021 ;)

Would love an 80s American classic though despite everything else going on. Loved looking at these cars in all my favorite 80s TV shows and movies.

Yeah, it was an artifact then, and 10 years later, it still is... and people are still buying new cars, how about that.
