General Comments:

Well, it is not a bad looking car... got pretty good miles to the gallon, nice enough ride. But this car CONSTANTLY breaks down. And it was taken very good care of, was not mistreated, was serviced regularly. The probs started almost as soon as it was purchased. Started out with just minor annoyances, and gradually grew worse with each needed repair till now. So I ditched it... bought a Jeep Cherokee Laredo. Now that is a vehicle that I would recommand, or any type of Toyota. Just stay away from the Buick Regals. Rule of thumb... if you go to used car lots, see what cars you see a lot of. The ones that you see the most are the ones to question. And yes, the Buick Regal is not uncommon at all on the lots of used cars.

1988 Buick Regal Limited 2.8 from North America

Faults:

Alternator went out and so did the water pump.

General Comments:

Bought as a used vehicle, not sure how previous owner maintained upkeep but it now has over 150K miles, is great on gas, super on the highway and handles well.

1988 Buick Regal Custom 2.8L MFI V6 from North America

Faults:

Alternator burnt up.

Fuel pump burnt up.

Windshield washer fluid reservoir has leaked.

Turn signal bulb went out.

Front axle universal joint cracked and leaked grease.

Ceiling head liner came down.

Rear brakes frozen.

Front brake rotors warped.

Worn spark plugs and wires.

General Comments:

The listed problems occured recently, but the car is 12 years old. I'm surprised all that held out that long. It probably deserves better than a 6 performance rating, but the bad spark plugs and spark plug wires are causing a substantial power loss. That little six cylinder has some teeth, it still amazes me how that little thing moves that 1 3/4 ton car around like it does.

Overall it's a good car I guess... but I would like it a lot more if it would stop trying to curl up and die on me. With the exception of the Buick Grand National Turbo I will not get another GM vehicle.

I got a 1988 Buick Regal Limited and the only problems I have had was the fuel pump wiring and the brakes. Overall it is an awesome car and I have no regrets of buying it.

I have a 1988 Buick regal, custom 4-seater, it has 31,420 miles, original parts except 4 windshield wipers and muffler.

I love, love this little car, handles well on the freeway.

I just replaced the headliner and sun visors. I am going to take car of this car like it is a part of me, just don't make cars like this anymore, the great thing is you don't have 2 take it 2 the dealer, if you know what your r doing, work on it yourself, all parts r either after market or you have 2 find them.

Please excuse type o's.

Lady Harmony.

1988 Buick Regal Limited 2.8 L OHV MPI V6 from North America

Faults:

Alternator failed, brake rotors and calipers, struts worn, AC retrofitted and recharged, transmission slippage (mostly wear items).

General Comments:

Overall, a good car, quite comfortable and even a little sporty in the two door version, better buys are the Regal GS versions with the 3800 V6.
