1999 Cadillac Seville STS from North America - Comments

"A superb American sports sedan"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Absolutely nothing.

General comments?

My 1999 Seville STS is a dream car to drive, ride in, and look at. Cadillac got it right with this model of Seville. The V8 Northstar engine is full of power and can easily get the car to cruising speed in a matter of very quiet, smooth seconds. Or if you prefer to step down on the gas prepare to get your head jerked back and burn some rubber from your tires as this baby goes from 0 - 60 in a matter of eye blinking seconds.

I really don't have anything bad to say about this car. It's a symbol of American pride and of great American cars gone by.

Have driven one of the latest (brand new) Seville STS built in 2002, I can tell you: It's not a Sport Sedan.

The Handling is absolutely shocking! 300 Hp, soft suspension and FWD... Torque Steer all the way and pray an Ave Mary, every time you get to a corner - Severe understeer and body roll.

The car feels very twitchy at high speeds. No wonder Cadillac limited the STS to 130 Mph. At 100 Mph the steering started to shake badly - The ride is floaty and the car wallows every bump on the road.

The Brakes lack in feel and why the traction control can't be totally turned off?! The damn thing was always interfering!

The above comment sounds like bits and pieces from an automobile magazine, I doubt this person has ever seen a Seville never mind driving one.

I agree with you that this is a very good car. we have had our 1999 sts for a year now, and we drive it harder than you would want to drive a bulldozer. this car is unbreakable, and feels super safe on the road at any speeds. and by the way man, this car is not limited to 130 mph. it goes 150 mph. and it has never shook at any speeds, and I have never been worried about crashing it or rolling. learn how to drive!

By the way, the traction control can be completely turned off. you just have to press the button, and it will say traction ready, or traction off. when it says its off, then its off. I know it sounds cruel, but my dad took it in our chicken barn which is 400 ft and we raced it against our polaris 500 EFI. the caddy just sat there spinning, because traction was off. but as soon as you turn traction off, then the car will beat the quad to the end of the barn easily. and don't worry, we did this after the barns were completely washed out. on the road I can beat a lot of the cars out of the light. they say this car goes 0-60 in 6.7 and I believe them when they say that. I think it would be a really sweet car if you put a performance exhaust, turbo, cold air intake, and a couple other small mods, then it would be nice to drive because this car is perfect for going to church, but then it is also perfect for going fast on the highway. i would much rather have a car like this than a mustang because it has just as good performance, but it has a much better quality and fit & finish.

You can turn traction control off, but then the transmission will start in second gear. I don't think that other person has driven an STS Cadillac, first off STS's have no limiter they are drag limited to around 140 to 155 MPH an SLS is limited to either 112 or 118 you just have to look at the tire placard on the driver side door jamb this will tell you the speed rating of the tires originally equiped with the car if you see a Z then there is no limited if you see an S then you are limited to 112.
