1994 Chevrolet Cavalier RS 3.1 V6 from North America

Summary:

A reliable car at a great price

Faults:

Had to replace the engine; the original was totaled. Interior was damaged; re-conditioning made it look better. Front right speaker is blown, but can be replaced easily.

General Comments:

I like this car. I purchased it when my first car, a 1982 Pontiac J2000, gave out on me. So far, this car has been extremely reliable. I live in a area where we get extremely cold winters. The car has never failed to start in the morning. The V6 gives the car excellent acceleration, and the automatic transmission shifts smooth. (I prefer a manual transmission, though)

1994 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 3.1 Liter from North America

Summary:

A long lasting, durable, dependable car

Faults:

I have not had any major repairs to this car until this year and I had to replace the air compressor. Of course, I have replaced the tires, brakes, plugs, gaskets, etc.. but that was routine maintenence.

General Comments:

This car has been more of a friend than a car. It has taken me through college (twice) through the military (4 years) and travelled throughout the country.

1994 Chevrolet Cavalier RS 2.2L 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

A reliable peppy sedan

Faults:

Leak in the radiator at 115,000 miles.

Idles loud at stops when the heater or air conditioner is turned on.

Had to replace the washer fluid pump twice in 1 year.

The frame around the stereo and heater knobs is starting to come off.

Leak in the trunk which caused mildew.

Poor gas mileage.

General Comments:

The engine was rebuilt before I bought the car, at probably around 80,000 miles.

The alternator, head gaskets and several other parts were replaced before I bought the car.

The car was very well maintained and I bought it in excellent condition.

Any problems that I've had with the car have been rather minor.

It runs well and is very reliable.

The car has quite a bit of pep for a 4 cylinder engine.

The backseat is very small and has little to no leg room.

Great student car.

Love the power windows and locks.

1994 Chevrolet Cavalier RS 3.1L V6 from North America

Summary:

Sporty, powerful, comfortable, and lots of fun to drive

Faults:

Has a small oil leak after 113,000 miles.

Panel under steering column rattles occasionally.

General Comments:

Has more than plenty of power.

Running premium fuel since I got it has restored power and gas mileage, also killed the knocks and pings.

I put 215 width tires on it (195 originally) giving it much better handling. This also helps a lot with acceleration. I recommend this upgrade highly.

Perfect car if you like to drive aggressively on a budget.

It's sporty, but not to where it stands out to cops, so you don't "look" like a speeder like you might in a Z24.

Lots of fun to drive.

It's also fun to surprise a brand new V6 Eclipse or one of those styled out Honda's at a stoplight when you beat them and they thought you had a little four cylinder.

I agree, my 94 does the same thing except stall, but it probably will.

Sounds like you just have a bad engine mostly.. these cars take a beating. I have so many problems with my Cavalier after owning it for years, I put off repairs, a lot of things are broken on it and it still starts and runs in freezing weather. I love this car.

Just bought a 1994 station wagon with 26K on it. I hope it runs and last a long time for my daughter. I only paid $1,500 for it.
