1990 Chevrolet Cavalier review from North America

"Great runabout with the legs and fuel economy to more than repay its purchase price"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Tie-Rods needed replacing at 115,000kms.

Brake lines blew at 120,000kms.

Transmission solenoid failed, causing the engine to stay in high gear and stall as I braked. Fixed by pulling the solenoid out.

Battery died in cold weather, easily fixed with a 750CCA battery.

Struts/shocks making knocking sounds around 150,000kms (lasted very well)

Alternator failed at 160,000kms.

Oil leaking from the engine block, easily solved by new gasket.

Heater wouldn't blow hot air - solved that by fitting a new thermostat, NOT by flushing the Rad.

Door frames are rusting pretty badly now.

Cloth on ceiling is hanging down both at front and rear.

Seal around trunk failed many km's ago.

Seal around rear window is coming away.

General comments?

The car wasn't fast in top speed, but could accelerate quickly IF the A/C was OFF.

Great fuel economy on the highway and 30-32MPG in town.

Seats lose padding quickly and become uncomfy. Lumbar supports make them bearable.

Very spacious trunk.

NOTE**** When filling the gas tank, lean 'against' the car and feel for the car starting to 'squat' under the weight of the fuel. It means your rear shocks need replacing.

NO CUP HOLDERS!

Car is now being scrapped as I slid into a ditch Feb 1st 2006. $3000 to repair.
