Turn signals work intermittently.
Hazard Lamps do not work at all.
Passlock theft system will not allow car to start for 10 minutes and then may do so again.
There was a recall issued on February 5, 2004 on the Hazard/Turn Lamps. I have contacted GM about these concerns and they stated they could not be of service for the Passlock theft system problem. There should be a way to deactivate it. There has been several occasions where it was a huge inconvenience such as being late to pick up my child from school or late to work. I am a single mom and I cannot afford to pay a mechanic to fix this problem, so I just deal with it as it comes. Otherwise the car has been good. I do prefer my Toyota Solara over the Chevy Malibu!
About the theft system problem - have you gotten it fixed? If so, how? I'm having the same problems with my 1999 Chevy Malibu and I have no answers.
Same problem with pass-lock, had it replaced, failed in 11 months, hoping to have a started installed soonest with passlock 2 bypass to resolve the problem. Cost $60.00 (CAD) plus labour for the pass plus which starter you select.
I have a 2000 MALIBU! Love it! The Pass Lock system was fixed by purchasing (beleive it or not) are remote starter! They have to bypass the system for this device to work and by doing so it recified the problem by accident!~ YAY!
I have put $$ into this car, but it is amazing deal my parents share it with me and it is perfect!
My pass lock froze not even a month into owning my 2000 Malibu and believe it or not, even with 90,000 miles GM still fixed it under the agreement I pay for any upcoming problems with it. Chevy Malibu is a car that rocks the mullet.
