1999 Chevrolet Silverado LS 5.3L from North America

Summary:

The best car I have owned

Faults:

The fuel sending unit on these are all defective. Replaced twice under warranty and once on my dime. Dealership response in any part of the country is that the local refinery put out some bad gas (that affects only the trucks from Chevrolet?)

Power window regulator went bad once. Dealer warranty item.

General Comments:

This has been the most reliable car I have ever owned. Not partial to it, just a fact. It gets an honest 20 mpg on the road and 18 in town. Runs like the day I bought it and I change the oil once a year with an extended interval synthetic.

It has been rock solid reliable and I am just wating for everything to crater at once, but it hasn't failed me yet. Many 90 mph road trips in the AZ desert and it keeps going.

I will drive it until it won't drive any more.

1999 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 LT 6.0 Gas from North America

The ABS light came on. Pump motor runs continuously. Unplugged connector @ pump unit. Keeps red brake warning lamp out.

Rough ride, but engine is strong. 0-60 in less than 8 seconds.

Good, heavy duty transmission (no trouble).

Terrible fuel mileage (12-13 in town, 15-16 highway easy driving)

This is my list of problems I have experienced in 77K miles.

1.ABS brake module went out. For $5 dollar fix see Jan.30, 2007, 18:04 posting.

2.Fuel pressure regulator, see Jan.30, 2007, 18:04 posting.

3.Passenger side door window regulator, buy aftermarket $90, 20 minutes to repair.

Another common problem with these trucks is the inside door handles break. I have now changed both drivers and passenger handles on my '97 silverado.

1999 Chevrolet Silverado LS 2WD 3DR 5.3 Vortec from North America

Summary:

A comfortable, reliable, pickup truck

Faults:

After about a year and a half, the transmission went bad. The dealer replaced it under warranty, and the new one is still working great at 113,000 miles.

General Comments:

A very comfortable truck that has a good resale value. It is a 3-door extended cab with 2WD. It handles alright, but I am used to driving cars. Also, it has good acceleration, 0-60 in under 10 seconds! No expensive repairs, a few recalls and a bad tranny replaced under warranty, but nothing much that I have had to pay for. I have been very happy with it, and plan on buying another Chevrolet in the next couple of months. I would reccommend it if you need a good, reliable truck.
