1999 Chevrolet Silverado LS 4.8L V8 from North America

Summary:

A well designed tough truck

Faults:

The gas pedal stuck, not to the floor, but when ever I turned it on it was hard to push the pedal so then I always had to tap it with my foot so I wouldn't have quick jump-starts. After that it was fine.

It didn't come with the trailer lighting plug and I had to go to 4 different dealers to find it.

General Comments:

The truck was very quick and sporty-like.

The truck handled very well while towing my 5,500lb boat.

Seating wasn't too bad for being cloth bucket seats.

Sound system was pretty decent.

Cabin was roomy.

Fuel economy was decent.

1999 Chevrolet Silverado LT Vortec 6.0 Litre Gasoline from North America

Summary:

I would buy another with a diesel though

Faults:

Whenever it is cold outside the 3rd door will not close properly. When the temperature is above about -5 degrees Celcius the door is fine. Below this point the door requires slamming to close. I have regularly maintained the hinges and closing mechanism. I am thinking it may require adjustment or the rubber stops require replacing to a softer rubber when cold.

General Comments:

I am so far very happy with the rest of the truck. It carries a load

(2000 lb. camper) very well.

The truck has plenty of power and handles good with a load.

The controls and interior components are smartly located. Seats are very comfortable and heated, a concern for Canadians living in the Northern climates. Brakes are good and responsive, even with a load.

1999 Chevrolet Silverado LS small V8 from North America

Summary:

Not sure if I would buy Chevy again

Faults:

ABS light came on at 61k miles

Noise from under the truck continues after shutting engine off

Removed ABS fuse (under the hood) to get the noise to stop.

General Comments:

Anyone else have this problem?

Seems to be a 'flaw' in the product that GM/Chevy does not want to own up to (?)

Had the same problem with my 99' silverado z71. ABS went out after only 35,000 miles. my warranty was gone and it cost me $1000.00 to have it repaired. I was not impressed!

We had the same problem with our '99 Silverado. Backing out of the driveway the light suddenly came on along with the buzzing noise. That was at about 57,000 miles. Maybe if enough people complain GMC might have a recall.

1999 Chevrolet Silverado LT 5.7L V8 from North America

Summary:

With some help it's a great truck

Faults:

The paint on the dash peeled from sun damage. A new dash was needed.

Several recalls including seat belts and brakes.

Driver-side window and door lock electronics replaced twice. The window stuck in the down position and door would not lock.

Alignment off, pulls to the right.

3rd door did not and still does not close properly.

General Comments:

It's an excellent truck for the price, and hopefully by now all the kinks are worked out.

Very roomy and comfortable inside.

Pulls heavy loads great, I had no problem hauling a 5,000 lb steel trailer and 3 horses.

Tow-haul mode makes much smoother gear shifting with a load.

I had a 6" suspension lift, 35" tires, and several other customizations done, and I think with that done it is the best looking truck on the road.

1999 Chevrolet Silverado LS 4.8L V8 from North America

Summary:

The perfect work horse

Faults:

The steering column slip-joint on the shaft that connects to the steering box went bad causing vibration in the steering wheel at around 18,000 miles. Dealer replaced it no charge.

The trailer wiring harness quit working. Dealer replaced the fuse no charge.

General Comments:

This truck is very powerful for the small V8. I tow a ski boat and a 30' fifth-wheel camping trailer with no problem at all. (no not at the same time)

The seats are very comfortable.

The truck rides better than a lot of luxury cars.

Good factory sound system.
