1999 Silverado I have the sound of water or air going through the heater core under my dash. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

I also have a 1999 Silverado on which the ABS module went out at 50k miles. My brother borrowed my truck the day it went out, and I had been blaming him for it for about a week now. I just took my truck to the dealership today and luckily it is going to be covered under my extended warranty and I will only have to pay the $200 deductible. The only reason I'm fixing it is because I've decided to get rid of the truck. Now I know that GM is to blame, and I can call my brother and apologize.

I too have a 1999 Silverado. In the last two months I have had to have the throttle body cleaned because the throttle was sticking, Driver side window regulator replacement, dirty fuel injectors, and of course the problem with the ABS motor continuing to run. Hope to see if it is just a sticking relay. Chevy doesn't actually repair stuff, they just do a wholesale replacement. I had the seatbelts replace on a recall, but the driver's side is now squeeking.

I have also had to replace the ABS on my '99 Chevy Silverado. The repair cost $1585. The dash lights are still coming on and off and the speedometer, RPM gauge and the gas gauge just die and flop to the bottom when I am driving down the road. Then in a while, jerk back to normal. I have been calling GM, have contacted NHSA and filed a complaint. The gas pedal sticks, occasionally and the truck just died on me this morning, at a stop sign, without any reason whatsoever. I am so discouraged and would get rid of the truck if I had the heart to sell it to somebody else and make their life miserable. I think it is a beautiful truck, but "pretty is as pretty does". I am not through with GM, yet.

Wow, was I surprised to read all the comments about the ABS system on my 99 chevy truck. And just about passed out when the GM service dept told me it would be $1000 to fix it. I agree there should be a recall on this part and we should call Chevy customer service and the NTSB. I plan on getting the word out. I'm mad as heck! Oh, by the way, my truck only has 50K miles too.

I have a 2001 Silverado with 51,000 miles. Same as everybody else, the ABS light came on and there was a humming from under the drivers side of the truck. The happened the day before we WERE going to go on vacation.

Wow! I thought I was alone. I also have 99 Z71 and already had the ABS system replaced once under warranty. Now it is giving out again. I feel that this may be my last Chevy Truck. I don't want to pay over $1000 time I have to replace something, especially when is something defective from the factory. GM really should own up to this problem.

I have a 1999 Silverado with 83,000 miles and also have the ABS problem. Started the truck and heard this humming noise and saw that my ABS and Brake warning lights were on. Luckily I was just 2 blocks from a GM dealer and went straight there to find out what the problem was. Long story short, I pulled the fuse and they want around $900 to fix. I have since discovered that this is very common. GM should conduct a recall since this is a potential safety issue.

My ABS light came on today, July 14,2004, on my 1999 Silverado. I have 67K miles on it. Same symptoms as above comments. I had to pull the fuse to stop the ABS pump from running my battery dead. I took it to the GM dealer hear in Bellingham WA. and discovered the part is 800.00 and another 240.00 to install it. This definitely should qualify as a recall item by GM.

I have a 2000 Tahoe with 39,000 miles. My ABS EBCM Module failed today. Had to pull the fuse. After reading all of these posts, I'm not feeling very good about getting this repaired. So far, this is the only problem as of yet. Been very happy with the vehicle.

We bought our 99 Silverado used, two weeks later the ABS motor stayed running after the truck was shut off, took it back to where we bought it, they unplugged the motor. This is definitely a serious Chevy problem. Any luck on a recall yet, where do I need to call to help get one. Also the 4wd service light comes on randomly anyone with that problem?

14th Sep 2004, 11:42

I also have a 1999 Chevy Z71. My ABS warning light came on and then my parking brake warning lights came on. At the Chevy dealership they told me my EBCM needs replacing at a cost of $1138.00 plus labor. My truck has 62000km on it and this is the first problem, but it looks like it is a chronic problem that Chevy trucks have.

By reading these comments I think this is my first and last Chevy truck.

I have a 1997 Z71 4X4 and the buzzing only happens when applying the brakes. Started at about 90k miles have 110k now. My son has the same problem only diff is a year newer. Pull the fuse???

I own a 1999 Silverado LS 1500 extra Cab. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone has the same thing I do. At about 70 miles per hour, it sounds like raindrops are hitting my windshield?! Is it a buffeting of the wind against the windshield? Any known remedy?

One more question, What is a good recommendation for a catback exhaust?

28th Nov 2004, 17:27

I too - ABS problem you all have - I bought my 99 Silverado used with only 31,000 from a Toyota dealer, three months later I'm pulling the ABS fuse. I want to sell it, but do NOT want to spend the $1000 to fix the ABS. Has anyone tried either of the two people that claim to be able to fix it for less? I'm a little ticked that my mechanic charged me $80 diagnostic when this problem has been going on for at least a couple of years. I'd think that the professional auto mechanic journals these guys read have this problem at least addressed. I'm calling to complain no matter what.

My ABS module also failed on my 1999 Silverado at about 50K miles. Did anyone else's battery post come lose from the heat of the ABS unit failing to stop running?

1st Dec 2004, 15:36

My ABS went out because of a corroded wire at 40,000 miles. Looks like the wire goes right into the AL. block. Any repairs known?? or just replace the unit. Thanks.janecurly@milwpc.com
