2004 Citroen C2 LX 1.4 hdi from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Very good reliable small car

Faults:

I have had this from new, and I have not had one problem with it; very reliable.

General Comments:

This car is very quick for a small car.

Very low running costs.

The inside is a bit small, but you can still fit a lot in. I had a child, a bike, a hoover, and shopping in it at one time.

The front seating is comfortable, but the back seats can be uncomfortable for adults, because of the tight space.

A pleasure to own

Faults:

Indicators do not always cancel.

Horn does not always work.

General Comments:

Excellent performance for engine size.

Handles exceptionally well.

2004 Citroen C2 VTR 1.6 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Good motor, but could be better

Faults:

I purchased the car in march 2006 and after washing the car I heard the horrid whirring noise from the rear brakes, this only happens when the car is in reverse and is wet, but can be cured with a good dowsing of brake cleaner over the calipers.

The car was then recalled for a gearbox fault with the software and was rectified.

The car tells you what gear you are going to be in and not what you want it to be in, as I like to set off in first gear, but the c2 likes second gear to start, and sometimes is slow to select reverse or neutral.

A strange whistling noise has now appeared from the engine when driving, but not when it is parked.

The viscous fan stayed on one day after it was parked up, I thought it was just cooling down, but the fan did not stop, so I restarted the car and the fan stopped and its not happened since.

The climate control stayed lit and operational even after the key was removed, but again after a restart with the key the problem righted itself.

General Comments:

This car is great to drive and is quick off the mark and will give other motors a run for their money.

The interior is smart and funky with all the gadgets of air con and climate control as well as cruise control and the sliding rear seats.

To me most of the faults that seem to occur are mainly electrical and after a turn off and re start interval the faults seem to right themselves or most of mine do anyhow.

Failing that remove the battery for 10 minutes to let the car reset and reboot and problems should clear.

2004 Citroen C2 GT 1.6 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Good on paper, but typically French

Faults:

Rear brakes squeak at low speed especially when wet and when in reverse.

The horn chooses when it does and doesn't want to work.

Locking wheel nuts are a very bad design and seem to 'round' themselves as soon as the locking wheel key is attached.

General Comments:

Good level of specification for the money. Excellent looks and performance is good.

Citroen main dealers are poor and take little care of your car e. g oil all over the carpet mats and engine bay after a service!

I had to complain to Citroen about the shoddy work of its local main dealer. They intervened and removed the grease from the seats, got the damage put right and sent me a cheque after a furious letter.

Good cars, some very poor dealers, some good dealers. I couldn't cope with the continually poor service at the local Citroen dealer, so I migrated to the Suzuki brand whose dealers and service have been exemplary.

C2 is an attractive car, like most Citroens, with excellent value and economy, but patchy workshop quality. Complain or swap dealers-the other nearest dealer to me is excellent, but a long drive away.
