1999 Citroen Saxo 1.1i from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Hate it

Faults:

My Saxo has failed the MOT on 'exhaust emissions carbon monoxide content at idle excessive'.

It passed the lambda on the fast idle and second fast idle test, but failed on the CO for the fast idle and second idle test.

I had a new cat and exhaust put in last year, and the exhaust is making a popping noise and I can smell fuel a lot. It also floods a lot.

I'm told it's the sensor, if so what specific sensor do I buy and what is it called, is there a specific sensor to fix the CO emissions?

1999 Citroen Saxo L 1.1i from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Waste of money

Faults:

Idle regulator.

Exhaust.

Fan belt.

Ignition collapsed.

General Comments:

The car was quite quick for small engine.

However when I took it home, I had nothing but bother with it. I bought it brand new from the Citroen dealer, and I have regretted it ever since.

After a week the fan belt was screaming and fell off an average of every 8 months.

The ignition collapsed after 12 months and the exhaust fell off when I drove to London.

As if this want bad enough, it started revving on its own. I took it to the garage and it was the idle regulator, which cost over 200 pounds to be replaced, but it seemed OK after this.

I will never buy another Citroen again. I now have a Renault and have no trouble with it.

1999 Citroen Saxo East Coast 1.1 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Excellent!

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

Very reliable engine, no faults, no problems whatsoever. The 1.1 engine really picks up speed quick. I've surprised many bigger engined cars, including the VTR!!

Handling is OK.

The brakes are a bit crap; not like a Fiesta; those brakes stopped you dead straight away. NO ABS for the Saxo.

Interior is very nice looking with the blue dials and yellow gear knob, and very very comfy seats. The gear stick is very easy and smooth to get into gears, and the steering is lightish around town.

You get a Blaupunkt CD player as standard, which is alright. The back of the car is comfy and roomy, and girls never complain. The boot is pretty big.

Fuel is alright when driving normal, but when you floor it, it drinks the juice quick.

1999 Citroen Saxo East Coast 1.1 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Cheap, no thrills, fast for 1.1, good engine

Faults:

50,000 - Drive shaft

65,000 - Windscreen wiper motor

65,000 - Air bag sensor broke

67,000 - Hole in exhaust.

Change oil myself every 10k

Serviced professionally 20k.

General Comments:

This is a 1.1 Saxo, I've driven many of my friends cars which are clio's and Peugeot 106,206. The 106 and the Saxo (same car) seem a lot faster for the engine size. My car is easily as fast as a lot of 1.4's out there.

Ride comfort isn't brilliant, the suspension is a little worn and bumpy.

The cabin is very nice, it is cheap, but looks nice enough not to depress me! The seats could be more comfy, but then again this is a cheap car.

Sound engine. The engine in this car has lasted very well, with no major faults, shame the niggly faults seem to let the reliability down on this car.

Car has never broken down since new. I would recommend to new drivers as its very nice and easy to drive. Would make a great city car although heavy mileage is probably not going to be much fun in this as it is noisy past 80.

All in all great car, if you looking for a budget car I would recommend this, or a Skoda Fabia which are great cars.

1999 Citroen Saxo First 1 Litre from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Cheap little run about

Faults:

Bulb Blew.

It blew up.

General Comments:

I got this car because it was cheap and I wanted a cheap run about. It wasn't very fast, but it had good MPG. I was doing 90mph on the motorway in it and the engine blew up.
