1998 Daewoo Lanos SE 1.3 from Greece

Faults:

From the time I bought the car the only fault was two-three weeks later when it had some problems with the injection. I went to the garage and they replaced the faulty injection controller with a new one. After that nothing weird happened.

General Comments:

Generally it's a good car for the the price you pay.

It needs some more power.

But with the new "Extreme" series it's OK.

1998 Daewoo Lanos SE 1.5 from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Still swear by this vehicle, like it or not

Faults:

No problems as yet.

Great service from the Daewoo dealer.

Have ten Lanos' on the fleet at work, have no problems with them and still swear by them.

General Comments:

Great little car for its price range.

Smooth as silk manual box.

Good economy (600 km's on 3/4 tank last weekend with the A/C on).

Great dealer support, good warranty.

If anyone doesn't like their Lanos, they should have taken it for a proper test drive before they bought it.

Great handling with wider, lower profile tyres.

Drive a Commodore, still love driving the Lanos.

I TOOK a test drive.

Too bad it didn't last for two years... then, all of the things that have gone wrong with it wouldn't be my problem.

I'm glad you like your car, but I know so many people who had have myriad problems that it is NOT worth it to buy a Daewoo.

Last year alone I spent an extra $1500 on fixing the car... things the warranty did not cover. Add that to the price of the car and the $600 I'm about to spend to fix it (again), and it is NOT worth it.

Faults:

Nothing up to 14,000 miles.

General Comments:

Well above average performance, well above average equipment, and I`m in the trade as a Motor Engineer so I drive a lot of different vehicles.

1998 Daewoo Lanos SX 1.6 petrol from Poland

Faults:

So far nothing.

General Comments:

(+/-) Engine - great, but takes a lot of petrol in the city (13 litres/100km), even more with A/C on.

(-) Interior - cheap & primitive.

(-) Suspension - I do not feel very stable compared to other cars.

(+) In Poland service & checks costs nothing for the first 3 years.

Good for shopping, but not long travel.

1998 Daewoo Lanos SX 1.6 DOHC from Puerto Rico

Faults:

The power window is very lazy. The motor belts sounds like chickens in the hood.

General Comments:

It's a great car, runs very well at higher speeds and has an excellent air conditioning system.

With a 'lazy' power window, there is usually an easy solution.

Just get some silicone spray (Ordinary furniture polish will do the job almost as well), and apply liberally to the runners with the window down.

Operate the window a few times to work it in and then wipe away the excess.

Voila! Perfectly functioning power window!

Re the above comment, that's your "check engine", which signifies a problem with the emission control or engine control systems.

Don't know what "garage" you took it to, but if they were not able to figure out what this light was and why it was on, I would not go back there.

If you take your car to AutoZone, they will scan it for free and tell you what trouble codes are causing the light to come on.

1998 Daewoo Lanos 1.6 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Nothing at all (rental for a month).

General Comments:

Great runabout, but absolutely terrible above 50 mph. It is very noisy.

For a 2nd car or runabout - not bad.
