2000 Dodge Caravan Sport 3.8 from North America

Summary:

I love this van. I will keep on driving it until it dies

Faults:

When I bought the vehicle, the transmission was acting up. The seller dropped the price by $1000. Cost me $320 to fix the problem.

After that, only minor repairs like brakes and the odd emission problem. Spent maybe $250 on emission problems. Always passes clean air inspection. Never seems to run bad; just the check engine light comes on; covered that up with tape.

Only complaint is rusting out, but the vehicle is 12 years old. Never changed a belt, wires, plugs, topped up the A/C only 1 time; still ice cold now.

General Comments:

The engine has lots of power. It is as strong as the day I bought it.

443000 km on your Caravan? That's pretty good; mine has 350000 and counting at the moment, and it is used hard as a work van.

People who say North American cars are junk have no idea what they are talking about!

2000 Dodge Caravan SE 3.3 from North America

Summary:

I will NEVER buy another Dodge product again!

Faults:

Many defects. Have had to replace transmission, driver's side door motor, serpentine belt, etc. Very costly repairs and very aggravating issues.

Arm rests have cracked and split already. Headliner has almost completely come down.

Speed sensor went out, which rendered the vehicle useless until replaced.

General Comments:

Unreliable vehicle. Major repairs, very costly and very dependable, only to break down. Even after being replaced, the transmission acts up, and every time I turn around, another piece of the vehicle is falling apart.

2000 Dodge Caravan 3.0 from North America

Summary:

It's not bad, but high maintenance

Faults:

Ive had this van for less then a year, and I've replaced the belt about 3 times because it kept on ripping.

Now there an annoying squeaking sound all of a sudden. The belt just falls off, so I replaced the idler. Now it seems it didn't change the squeaking noise, so I'm going to replace the tensioner.

I've read a lot of reviews about the same problem; haven't tried the gator belt, but thinking about it. Not too sure what to do about noise; the tensioner doesn't seem to be that bad (in condition). If anyone has a solution, please post a comment.

Also my evaporator core just went out; cost me $800. And they told me that's a low price for that, since you have to pull off the whole dash.

If you ask me, I think that the engineer of this had too many shots at the club the night before designing this.

Never the less, not looking at these downsides, which should be considered before buying a Dodge Caravan, it's a good family van.

God Bless

General Comments:

Fairly good for the family.

2000 Dodge Caravan SE 3.0 V6 from North America

Summary:

It is a great little van and if you are planning on getting another vehicle try out a dodge caravan

Faults:

Timing chain got wrapped around a belt at 140000 miles.

Had an electric problem.

The map sensor went bad and when you go to drive the van it shuts off while you are going down the street.

The exhaust has an awful smell come out ever once in awhile.

General Comments:

The van has a very smooth ride and has lots of power to take you where you need to go.

It doesnt use a drop of gas I can go 400 miles on a single tank of gas.

It doesn't use oil.

The van is very comfortable and has a great heater and a\c this van is great if I ever get another vehicle I'm keeping this one and getting another dodge.

Everything for this van is cheap.

2000 Dodge Caravan Base 3.0L V6 from North America

Summary:

Solid, reliable... and CHEAP!!!

Faults:

Nothing other than regular maintenance items (brakes, tires, timing belt, etc). Bought it and sold it with original engine, tranny, exhaust system (in rust prone Canada... impressive).

General Comments:

This Mitsu engine is bullet proof. Decent on gas and good performance considering relatively small displacement for a van. I drove this vehicle hard, towed extensively (tent trailer), maintained it well and it ran like new.

I had never owned a Dodge product before and hesitated before taking the plunge. While I had been a Honda guy before, I couldn't accept the ridiculous price on used Odysseys... all of which had had trannies replaced (if over 100K).

While the Dodge certainly didn't feel as tight as anything produced by Honda, it's hard to ignore this combination of reliability and value.

I just picked up my brand new 2007 Caravan... I'm sold.

OK... my 2007 Caravan is not nearly as good. I should have kept my 2000... it would still be running fine I'm sure.
