1998 Dodge Intrepid ES from North America

Summary:

I love it!

Faults:

I don't know what everyone is complaining about... I have a 1998 Intrepid, bought it last year used, the only thing I had to replace are the brakes. I love my car and have had not one problem with it. I drive my car everyday and have put a lot of miles on it. To me it's very dependable and I would purchase another in a minute.

General Comments:

This car has a lot of power, the comfort is outstanding in the back seat, a lot of leg room.

1998 Dodge Intrepid ES 3.2 from North America

Summary:

Have not owned a more enjoyable and reliable car

Faults:

Cooling fan died, >$500.00 to replace (did both).

Rack (Rack & Pinion) replaced, also $$$.

Front spring/strut units replaced, again $$$.

Air conditioning unit replaced (~175,000 miles), now broken again.

Few problems with leaking transmission cooling lines.

Oil pressure sending unit replaced.

Water pump let go, but was overdue for timing belt change at the time.

Intermittent problem with panel lights, more recently.

In hot or humid weather does not like frequent short errands and will not start unless allowed to rest for about 20 minutes.

Left front door panel screw holes broke.

Express down feature for driver's side window broken.

General Comments:

Great look!

One of the best cars I've driven in the snow, but is too low to the ground -- plows snow >4" deep.

Reasonably fast and handles well.

Awesome space -- comfortable and adults have no knee issues in the back seat. Room to spare in trunk.

No problems in first 100,000 miles. Got cost of extended warranty reimbursed in 2001.

While finicky on short trips in hot/humid weather, would drive it for long distances anywhere.

Can't believe this car is a Dodge.

1998 Dodge Intrepid ES 3.2 from North America

Summary:

Dodge should make go-carts, they haven't a clue how to build a car

Faults:

Cooling system problem. Cooling fans stopped working and blew fuses, coolant boils over while temp. gage is normal. Dodge dealer stated fans needed to be replaced, wanted to rip me off $1175.00 for the fans install. Did work on my own with $150 NEW fan assembly and it took me 1 1/2 hours to install. Thieves. Cooling system still doesn't work, obviously the fans weren't the problem.

Transmission blew at 120000 miles. Auto-stick feature always had problems, transmission would slip and then wouldn't shift to a higher gear, had to shut down car to reset computer (if computer was an actual brain, this car would be considered retarded).

Ignition fell apart, not sure when but any car should die before it's ignition goes out.

Clear coat came off car's paint job, pathetic and unprofessional manufacture paint job.

Many parts are completely inaccessible and bad placement of engine components. EX. battery is underneath the air intake system, terminal posts located in random areas of engine compartment and wired to the battery. Car is built by morons.

A/C stopped working at 110000 miles.

General Comments:

Car has problem after problem that always cost more than the car is worth.

Completely unreliable, never know what problems to expect every time I turn the key.

Monkeys could build a better car.

I dream of driving it off of steep embankments with me in the car!

Every Dodge/Chrysler car I've owned were utter pieces of crap. Went through 2 used Le barons and 1 used town and country in one year.

Friend owned a new Avenger, stated that engine components were buried and inaccessible (spark plugs located underneath exhaust manifold, cost $3,000 to change spark plugs), put him in $35,000 debt.

If you dislike Dodge/Chrysler products so much, WHY do you keep buying them?

I agree with the first comment. I think this review is written by one of the import lovers. If you have problems, that's fine, and most likely understandable. What car doesn't have problems here and there??? But you buy three of the same cars in a year and they're ALL junk??? I don't think so. My Intrepid Has been Flawless for 8 years. Love it.

If every one of the Chrysler cars you have owned are (quote) "utter pieces of crap", then why would you buy yet another one?

While some of the information you provide may be accurate, your entire review is tainted by the unnecessary comments about other Chrysler products.

My '98 Intrepid is 150,000+ miles and goin' strong.
