1995 Dodge Intrepid ES review from North America
"Great looking car and fun to drive"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Faulty probe in radiator cause the water pump to blow. At first the mechanic did not know it was the probe so he replaced the fuel injector rail as it was having problems starting. Actually the car was over heating and that is why it would not start. After the 2nd water pump blew he figured out the probe was bad. This happened under the extended warranty. Car was less than two years old.
Have rebuilt the transmission twice, once under warranty and once out of pocket.
Transmission lines have leaked twice and been replace under warranty.
Key-less remotes needed to be reprogrammed. This was covered under warranty.
Replaced the CV joint on the right side. This was not covered under warranty.
Replaced the cam shaft and crank shaft sensors.
Spark plug wires went bad at 111,000 miles.
Have a small head gasket leak that I manage by monitoring the coolant level and bleeding the cooling system on a regular basis so it doesn't create an airlock. Also the mechanic drilled a hole in the thermostat to lessen the air lock problem.
Both headlamps have broken away from the bracket. I glued them in place with a strong epoxy.
Replace front and rear engine seals.
Replace compressor.
General comments?
Except for mechanical problems, I really have enjoyed this car for the past 8 1/2 years. It still looks good inside and out. It still boogies and handles great. Thank you Eric for keeping this thing going for so long. I hope to take it to at least 150,000 miles before I get rid of it. Just bought a Honda Odyssey as I just cannot deal with the Dodge transmission problems. I use the Intrepid for going to the store or mall or on errands. It still gets really good gas mileage.
